Sydney University.....

February 04 2014

I see a lot of this type of wording when browsing numerous profiles.... "To Sydney University and any other institutions using this website or its associated sites for projects take note: in the absence of express written consent provided by me, you DO NOT have permission from me to use any part/s of my profile or pictures in any form or forum both current and future." profiles.... So. What's that all about? Are there really Sydney University students wandering the halls of RHP looking for sample photos and profile descriptions for their projects, and if so, does this wording really stop them? What law are we talking about that protects us against unauthorised use of this information, or is it all bluff and bluster? Who started this, and why is the wording on every profile so similar? Has anyone actually had trouble with Sydney University and if not, why has it been singled out? If it is important, shouldn't it be on all profiles.. you know... put there by RHP? HugsGazpacho

On steroids..... Do people honestly think they're going to know if someone from the university of Sydney has used their profile to gather statistics of sexual trends??? Bahahaha all it takes is a profile on stealth mode, and even then they don't need to worry about it being on stealth mode as it's just going to be "just another profile view" that will stroke their ego enough. On the RHP mobile you can't download any photos, so what are they afraid of?? My bet would be their own shadow lol :) - Posted from rhpmobile

Why it is written and does writing the disclosure carry any weight??? As a pseudo dabbling academic - life long learner, I get the value of gathering data for assignments and perhaps full research data, although ethical consent would need to be required for formal peer reviewed studies. Any uni assignment material would require de identifying ie not use my RHP username. The exhibitionist in me loves the thought of my boobs enlarged on some power point presentation in a lecture theatre!!!!!! I am preceptoring some students from Sydney next week..........lolol ;)))

But in terms of using profile info - you'd need to check the terms of service as to whether you have copyright of what you post here or if you assign it to rhp

Sirlurk... And I agree with you... That stupid disclaimer and the fools who perpetuate it should go back to Facebook and share "get Cony" links... Hp xo 💌 Because you're worth it...

I find seeing the disclaimer a turn-off. And more often than not when I see it it is longer than the profile itself. . So... . Sydney University and other institutions using this site take note: You have permission to use any part or parts of me in any way you see fit. Push me, prod me, study me and violate me. I'm ready and waiting for action, legal or otherwise. Come at me. .

some have a disclaimer, some don't. Some have a wing man, some don't. Check the legalities of public posting then comment. The net is a public space, unless...

The copyright of the profile is a little ambiguous as some content is RHP's. The images and text you add to a profile has duel copyright, You as the author hold copyright, and RHP as part of the terms of use agreement have a right to copy, distribute and share all content you have placed on the server. The copyright warning on profiles is just a useless waste of space as that copyright already exists. Some of the wording of these warnings are so badly done that the members actually reduces their rights by stating that only the university is not allowed to copy, distribute, or share the content, thus giving everyone else copy rights. Even with a "go away warning" on a profile the universities can still to use the information on the profile to gather statistics and reference individual profiles. Remember this is a public network and available to any person the world over. BTW i am a university student and my computer keeps a copy of every profile I view. Bite me.

They only need you permission to copy the profile or parts there of. They can use it any other way they like. For example, 1 in 4000 people on dating sites like to kiss concrete dinosaurs and then reference your profile. You cant stop them doing that, even if you remove your profile, there is always a public copy available somewhere..

I wonder what would happen, if "the privacy Act statement" were put on the bottom of profiles, (like they do on government documents) would the university still use it ??? LOL Foxy - Posted from rhpmobile

once it goes on line it is no longer yours you have agreed to let every one use it.that's why there are a lot of fake profiles out there. With all the information people put on sites like face book it's open season. people can take that information and pictures to build a fake profile. I have been on a few date sites now and I have noticed a lot of these fake profiles come up and don't hesitate to report them that is why I verify my profile I have seen my picture used and its not a good feeling. so if you don't want your pic used and abused don't put them up wait until you have met the person you want to show them to and come to an agreement that they will not use them

Sadly, despite years of low fat omega rich diets.... Miss Mermaid lacked the flexibility required to treat her how she needed to be. But she did say something about fillet. (I may or may not have tweaked her clam.......) I think im just about done here.

As someone who essentially will be doing research for a living when I finish my PhD, and has done a lot of it in their undergrad, I can honestly say (at least when it comes Psychology), consent is not implied, it's explicitly given. Not saying you do not consent is totally different to saying you DO consent to taking part in research. And given how strict the ethics committees typically are at universities, they would never let someone run the risk of violating a person's privacy by letting them use information from random people's profiles on a website like RHP without actually recruiting the participants, explaining what the research was about and then receiving consent to use their information. Research ethics are in place for a reason, and I really don't think placing that "warning" under your profile is necessary as any researcher will know they can't just willy-nilly come on here and use your information as research data.
