Sydney University???

January 13 2023

I’m relatively new here but just wanted to ask about the researcher non consent posts on some peoples bios. What’s it all about and are people using info/images from the site? I’m not cool with that.

Those posts were around in 2004 when I signed up on here... if Sydney Uni are using here for research they are certainly bloody slow at publishing

It's just like people being here for research, without their partners consent. Just ignore and move on. Ms Foxy

If people are concerned about online privacy and security from being on any sites such as this, then I would think that SU are the least of your problems!

I’m picturing that way back when the internet and privacy was not a well thought out issue, some USyd lecturer may have had the bright idea of including an “anonymous” in identifying profile picture sourced from a dating site as part of discussions on human sexual behaviour. There’s no way your images would be used in publication but I can guess that someone seeking out to scientifically research sexual behaviours may have been missing some social know how. I would know, I have worked alongside said academics 😂

I guess it was just a general enquiry as there are a lot of people with the non consent statements. Clearly in reality it’s not an issue. It has set my mind wandering though in a more mischievous way- what would you research? Eg is there a difference between the acceptance of male and female nudity, and is there a difference in success rates in attracting a play mate/ partner with either? I’m guessing men are pretty shallow on this one!

Nope, I’ve got a pic of myself standing in the nude but with an apron subsequently drawn over my neither regions. For some reason it is classified as x rated and therefore cannot be seen. But the place is awash with plenty of lovely female breasts and bottoms (encased in bikinis or otherwise). Not that I am complaining per say, but censorship here is a complete mystery to me.

I would be more worried about having health cover with Medibank or your mobile service with Optus than worrying about what university students do with your nude images. I am sure that they create much more interesting pics all on their own with instagram these days

I've been using those disclaimers as a vetting tool for years and years now. Anyone who has it, I giggle, roll my eyes and onto the next .... 🥰

I've been waiting for some hot nerds to come study me for years but starting to suspect they're just a myth like the probing aliens.
