My favourite is that it's about connecting with the divine in all things. It's often seen as the part of the Yoga/Ayurveda/Tantra triad, all of which are marvellous philosophies and practices for life and spirituality. Tantric sex is but a piece of the Tantra pie. Tantric energy actually lives within and can be manifested by an individual, of and for themselves. Like all pathways to growth and divinity, connection and relationship to self is key, but connection and relationship to others can heighten and deepen the journey. Tantric sex is so often misunderstood as a series of techniques to have mind-blowing orgasms. This is such a narrow view. K, a Tantric women's group sounds positively delightful. Australia has some great Tantric guides and I hope you have a genuinely heart-opening experience. Enjoy x

Tantra is the shortest path to true enlightenment and is especially suited to today's hectic time poor lifestyle. However, it is also fraught with dangers for those who are not prepared. The true tantra is all about love of all things, including love of self, and unleashing both the divine masculine and feminine and many sculptures of the gods show this. It is mainly because of these sculptures that western society has taken tantra to be all about divine sex even though this is only a very small part of the tantra. Western tantra may have missed the mark some what by focusing on the sexual side of tantra and not on the whole, they have however got most of the ideals right. Tantra, in a sexual sense, is about unleashing the Kundalini, a snake like spirit which lies sleeping in your sexes, and shifting the pleasure and energy during sex ( or masturbation) up through the chakras. One of the best books around which combines both the traditional and the western practices and puts them into words that aren't leaving you trying to get the correct pronunciation of Sanskrit words, is Urban Tantra by Barbara Carrellas. I recommend it to anyone curious about tantra.

I have the book you mention and in fact it's what has interested me in Tantra. My weekend workshop is at the end of the month and I hoping I'll know more after that. I'm a novice and not really in a position to offer any further advice or information to those asking 😊- Posted from rhpmobile

If you wanted to pursue the Tibetan path of tantra, i.e the whole not just the sex, another good book as a starting point is Introduction to Tantra: The Transformation of desire by Lama Thubten Yeshe. This goes right through the tantric practice in laymans terms.
