The Empire Strips Back

June 01 2014

Saw this most impressive show last night here in Perth at the Regal and thought I'd have to name drop it here, see what others thought of it and how it compares to the average burlesque experience. I've seen a few burlesque shows, mostly in my adopted hometown of Fremantle as part of the annual burlesque festival here in Perth. While it lacks something of the intimacy of a smaller burlesque experience, the long teases and lingering you expect from burlesque and the inventiveness/acrobatics of some of the solo burlesque acts I thought it was outstanding regardless. The costumes (or uniforms, as one over-enthusiastic Star Wars fan I sat beside demanded they be called) were just so seductive, tempting, teasing and beautifully crafted. The female parts were stunning from start to finish. There was some brilliant plays on the franchise and definitely plenty of cheeky comedy in there that you'd expect from burlesque. The outrageous male parts, while lacking any oiled-up, sexy and acrobatic specimens for the ladies, were brilliantly done and very enjoyable. I won't go into them so as not to spoil for those interested in checking it out before its run ends over East (Albury and somewhere I think). All in all I really thought it was a brilliant show and only wish there were far more of these floating around Australia and afar to tickle my fancy more regularly. Looking forward to the festival coming up here at the end of June to get my annual dose of fine enticing fillies! Hats off to this show.

The Empire Strips Back was awesome... saw it at the Enmore just recently... the group that produced it have 2 more shows coming up later this year "Dames on Thrones" and "Ghost Boobies"... am definitely going to see them! On a more serious side, am starting to really appreciate ye old burlesque... there is a place in the city that has a regular show night... well worth the visit. SG
