..too much money spent ,the Brazillians have already demonstrated about this ...the Olympic organising body is corrupt..Athletes and doping scandals the negatives are endless . And country against country a metaphor for war.. .but I am just a small minority in my views ..but I do love the fact that there is a refugee contingent not attached to any country..that reflects the amazing resilience of the human spirit. lol I'll have to bump up my sex olympics thread fancy a bit of a workout, some sweaty training sessions with elite athletes mmm I love the olympics, but I don't have a tv stopped watching tv a few years ago and never miss it, but the Olympics would be the exception. I can watch on the computer, not as good though. Events that should be removed in my opinion are the long boring ones, the marathons, who wants to watch people doing the same thing for hours and hours and hours, whatever, just get it done already, put us out of our misery and the same with the triathlon etc events with the bike riding in them, bore me to tears. Actually all bike riding bores me to watch, not saying cut them out, but boring. Events to keep are swimming, diving, gymnastics, athletics (track and field, minus the marathon events), beach volleyball, trampoline. That would do me, not interested in the rest. Respect the athletes and the work they put in but really, who wants to watch a big fat guy lifting a heavy weight

if broadcasters are going to broadcast then broadcast properly. so over Australia and its self obsession with the swimming. Brazilian beach volleyball should be nice ;) but Rio...with all the crap that seems to go on there, I wonder what Mark the Olympics is going to leave on the place - Posted from rhpmobile

I was reading an article after I posted this last night questioning if Rio will join the list of the worst Olympics in history. I read about the fails in the lead up including the ones you mentioned, and some as low as police not having toilet paper! Probably because they spent so much on bribes to win the rights to hold them in the first place. I think it's a shame the original ideas behind them have been lost over the years. We celebrate the anniversary of His survival from cancer every time they come around. xox That's impressive to think you don't have a TV, I touch. I mostly don't have it on when I'm alone but it's on pretty much the rest of the time if someone is home here. Haha, maybe start a whole new thread even. I don't see why not. I'm a big supporter for beach volleyball, the bikes, ick. I saw some of that yesterday, a lot of it actually. KMN. The cobblestone areas probably would have been enough to tempt some to do just that ;-) Is that Poke or Meow today? I see the beach volleyball is a big winner already, lol. I wonder how it will all pan out for the place too. We're not getting to see any of the squalor behind the scenes or the effect on the population while we're being given a societally acceptable vision of events. That's life, eh. :-) Peachy

The USA's first gold was for shooting. Haha, I couldn't say anything against the swimming except... synchronised swimming? No thank you. Peachy

It can’t be reassuring for arriving fans when they are greeted at the airport with banners saying “WELCOME TO HELL”.

Apparently many of the "Olympic traditions" are directly related to Hitler's influence on the 1936 Berlin Olympics.A friend was telling me about a documentary on SBS.

Normally I watch some of the more popular events - just because. But I like watching the shooting, gymnastics, canoe slalom, this year I want to watch the BMX. I don't mind the diving and field hockey either.

I sat up late last night and watched the gymnastics. It amazes me how some gymnasts swing themselves around and around on poles, rings etc. I could sit and watch them all day long. I especially love the ribbon dancing, balls and hoops too. Ms Foxy

Quoting 'SuperFoxxxy' I can't wait for the Paralympics on 7th September. Such a shame, it's not broadcasted as much. :( Ms Foxy I used to work for Samsung when the Sydney Olympics was on and Samsung was a major sponsor, we got a few free tickets here and there for the regular Olympic events but a tonne of free tickets for the para-Olympics and i went to mostly track and field events. I was highly impressed with the dedication the non abled bodied people put in to compete on all levels and have since lost interest in the normal Olympics with all the hype around it and none around the Para Olympics. Also most people don't know but the Gay games are held in the host city after the Para Olympics and holy shit i met some awesome people in Sydney who where competing in the gay games!

Quoting 'Qefenta1' ..too much money spent ,the Brazillians have already demonstrated about this ...the Olympic organising body is corrupt..Athletes and doping scandals the negatives are endless . I'm with Q on the issue of countries that aren't rich spending money on the Olympics. It is long established that the Olympics are NOT a boost to the overall economy as Olympic venues have a high upkeep cost, and even the impact on travel is just a shift in the timing that evens out when you look at a longer timescale. I dislike some of the sports that make it into the games, at the expense of others that I think would benefit more (could be blatant bias and self interest on my part). But I know there is a money limit on how many sports you can include, and that if it were a free-for-all on including sports then that would take away a valuable source of bribe money to IOC delegates. I tend to have a dislike of subjectively judged sports - I just don't know how you can solve the judging problems. To me, those are even worse than other scandals, it is such a disgusting abuse of power and destruction of athletes dreams without any control of their own by people not even competing. This will be the first time I'm interested in the women's track and field events because I'm waiting to see just how much Caster Semenya wins by in her events, and to see just how much of an impact the Court of Arbitration in Sports screwed things up with it's decision regarding intersex athletes in the women's competition.

You guys have a great pic Mr Poke... and reow Ms Meow, I hope you put a little claw in that glove slap. Nothing like a little sting in the tip to get the blood flowing freely through the veins. Mmmm, The men's... yes. ;-) That was mind blowing Hank. First I'll mention the symbols that I finally found a story for. That is a highly ironic history considering the rings and the torch bearing both reached their present fame through their use by Hitler at the 1936 games. The other article I came across a article was about how Germany got the right to have the Olympics in 1931 and then Hitler came along in 1933, concerns were raised about the treatment of the Jews but boohooed and here we are these many years later. And ironic that the black American runner Jesse Owens was the winner of the most medals that year despite the best Aryans that were pit against him. I like a bit of iron in my diet. I'm loving your new profile pics Soft and Foxxxy, your names describe them so perfectly! I do of course mean that in a good way. I'm glad you went back to your original name Soft and the xxxs in yours Foxxxy are inspired. I do enjoy learning about sports I have no idea of Soft. The canoe slalom is one. The diving is a skill that impresses me when they manage to make almost splash at all upon entry. And Foxxxy, the ribbon was one of the things I got to have an experience of at school in a dance we performed. I bought one of those ribbons in rainbow shades in the last few months and I do enjoy the sight of it's liquid movements. I've had similar thoughts as you that the paralympics are not as recognised. 3some, I had no idea that the paralympics were followed up by LGBT Olympics. Thank you. S, so droll, lol. I have an agreement with you about the subjectively judged sports. And yes, there is so much to question and see the outcomes of. Peachy

Love it or not, every 4 years like clockwork. I like seeing the best in their endeavour representing their country. If they pick up a gong it is a bonus. BBC has the best feed imo. Commonwealth games are a joke, as is Pan Pacs et al.... YMMV on that opinion.
