For whatever reason that people decide to go under the knife, I believe they must have a good reason/purpose to do it. It's like those who are addicted to having plastic surgery done, they probably don't feel happy within themselves, that's why they keep going without remembering the side effects. Pardon me if this sounds wrong, but I tend to think that people who are born with obsession to plastic surgery are similar to people who are born "sensitive". It's a factor that their families should pay attention to and perhaps get them helps rather than just saying "nah, it's normal because everyone has different habits" or "it's ok, they will grow out of it once they reach their mature age", etc. etc. etc. That's a bad care I would say.

I watched that with a (female) friend last night.... watching her reactions was more interesting than the show. She crossed her legs, was uncomfortable, and ensured that even thought her vagina is one of the prettiest ones ive met, she was determined that I should kiss it better anyway.LOL DG

Just seemed so sad that genY girls are so obsessed with vanity and perfection that they would go through surgery like that . So unnecessary - Posted from rhpmobile

Had to switchover for a while when the op was on, but it did ram home for me how different women are, and as my thoughts were flowing how different guys are too... Very sad state of affairs that as a society we're buying into beauty stereotypes that are rarely obtainable.

I wonder how much of it is due to young girls feeling that there is an expectation from boys who only want girls to have 'porn pussies'. So much about what young people today 'learn' about sex comes from porn. A recent UK Channel 4 doco surveyed 11/12 year olds across a range of socio economic groups and found that a staggering 80 odd percent had hard core porn on their phones. Furthermore, the girls were clear that they understood that it was expected for them to take it up the arse, do deep throating and facials from the moment they become sexually active. Remember, these are pre-teen girls!!! It was disturbing to watch. In the same interviews, they also talked about body image and the size and shape of their labia - they thought their outies were 'ugly' and not like the girls on the porn, though they didn't talk surgical options (just a matter of time though). Mr IAT and I had a long conversation after watching it about how we could educate our boys (when they're older) to understand about natural variation etc. We're not naive enough to think they won't be exposed to porn with their peers but how we'd educate them was a question left unanswered. And as a side note, I actually considered surgery myself quite seriously for a while for a number of reasons some time ago. One of those reasons was the notion that innies were universally more desirable but the other reason was more practical - sometimes, my leftie was uncomfortable at the gym (*blushes). It was actually these forums that helped me come to my senses (thanks RHPers). Now, I embrace my vagina just the way she is. And I love her :-) - Posted from rhpmobile

I wonder if we as mothers, in particular, and society in general have a part to play in this. We praise girls for the way the way they look from the time they are infants....Who's a pretty girl, what a pretty dress, you look so pretty in pink. And we praise boys for their performance, great goal son, well done in that race, great try son, awesome grade in that test son. Are we teaching our daughters to be so shallow as to care about the size of their Labia? Do they really think that perfection is that necessary? It's sad that we train our daughters to have self esteem issues.

I have been an advocate for 'women against labiaplasty' and a vocal member of an 'anti-labiaplasty surgery group' for several years now and surprisingly many of the groups lobbying and most staunch members are in fact men. Doctors and lobbyists against this procedure are blaming the internet porn boom as, annually, more and more women seek 'designer vaginas' through genital surgery. What young women, who are electing this procedure, don't realise is that the porn industry edits its genital imagery. The images are often air-brushed and digitally enhanced to provide a customised (albeit distorted) version of reality when it comes to labia size, shape and pigment (or skin colour). In 2009 the British Journal Of Obstetrics and Gynaecology revealed that procedures were up 70% on the previous year and research suggests that it's the 'pornification' of modern culture that is driving up surgery rates to unprecedented levels. Because this is a 'cosmetic' procedure with no medical relevance it bares a link to psychological disorders like 'body dysmorphia' a condition where the individual obsesses about a particular body part, and in this case, prevalent in women under 30yrs. Which also raises concerns that private providers could be acting irresponsibly by operating on vulnerable women who are more in need of psychological care. With 99% of the before and afters I have seen, (and there are thousands on the internet), it is the before shots I have personally found more appealing. The 'after' pics generally look like children and are rather ridiculous. Not unlike a series of cloned Barbie Dolls, which I find quite sad to be honest. Here some anonymous examples of opinion/articles from anti labiaplasty advocates:(Female 42yrs) How much proof from nature do we need people before something is done about this hideous surgeory? It is not 'Labiaplasty' at all! With respect to the thousands of ridiculous and shocking, before n after photos, circulating on the net? While ever this mutilation remains legal it should be legislated that this procedure be called "LABIA REMOVAL"! Then young girls contemplating this operation, who have not even reached sexual maturity, had even one sexual encounter, and don't have the level of emotional development to make an informed decision, might at least have a sliver of a chance in realising that they may be 'losing/amputating' something precious which makes them totally unique. It's a decision where the consequences may be irreversible?( Male 40yrs)I do find it puzzling that women are prepared to mutilate themselves in the name of 'beauty'. As a healthy, red-blooded straight male it makes no difference how large or small that particular area is. Any woman who voluntarily enters into such a highly invasive procedure should try being with a loving, supportive partner rather than someone who denigrates their sex. Then they might realise that something only seen when in an intimate situation is not the be-all and end-all they think it is. My partner, for instance wants to get breast implants but I am vociferously against this idea. I love her, stretch marks and all and nothing will change this fact.(Female 28yrs)So do you measure up? We always hear about boys and their schlongs. But did you know that men find the looks and size of the vulva important too? New research indicates that an overwhelming majority of men prefer women with big, luscious pussy lips. The research was carried out in order to understand the bizarre trend of labia-reductions. Apparently, some women are ashamed for their big lips, while men prefer them and find them beautiful and precious. (The statistical difference is significant here: over 80% preferred big clearly visible lips, while only 10% preferred smaller lips; 10% didn't care. So men do not like "infantile non-pussies". They want meat.)(Male 45yrs) I'd like to point out that in all of the contact i've had with women who've told me why they elected to have the procedure, 100% of the them say, it's the negative opinions of others that have led them to consider labiaplasty in the first place. Finally, just a theory on my part, regarding the current global trending of how a vagina/labia 'should' look, but, when all is said and done, how many of the surgeons performing labiaplasty today will in future years be rubbing their greedy hands together as the same disillusioned women line up seeking a reversal or labia reconstruction? It seems nowadays you can have anything you want for a price.dbs

Totally agree karynb. I myself cannot believe how unaccepting of ourselves our society is nowadays, and worsening. I was fortunate enought to have a friend in my late teens who had an enormous nose :) (and hey, I'm no slouch :) He was a really sweet guy, and dicks like me and his gf would (good naturedly) tease him, and suggest a nose job, and his reply was always " if I got a nose job I wouldn't be Aidan anymore...." That's just transferring the judgment and subsequent feelings of inferiority from one group onto another. And this is one of the things that pisses me off in arguments like this....it's like we just can't accept that ALL are ok, there always has to be one group that gets judged as being inferior or not as desirable.

I couldn't agree more Luckdragon, why does anybody have to be inferior. Isn't there room in the world to be different and STILL beautiful? Imperfect and still desired? I know i don't/can't offer perfection so i'm willing to accept that in my partners. As for that one special other, i'm hoping that i'm perfect for him.....perfectly imperfect that is. I think that many people suffer from a scarcity mentality. Not enough to go around. Not enough approval, not enough love....they have to denigrate others because they believe that then makes themselves more desireable. Quoting 'deepbluesumthing' (Female 28yrs) So do you measure up? In Australia the censor encourages this by enforcing an innie only policy on soft porn like Picture magazine? They have to airbrush to stay legal. One of the stupider laws still on the books.Personally I've never met a vag I didn't enjoy, and I expect most men are the same. Vive la différence! Some great comments above from KarynB and IAT, and thanks to the OP for the topic.Mr C

I watched this also and had a huge rant about it in my fb. How can we create a society so misguided. All things are beautiful. I wish the world wasn't so shallow. I know since my daughter hit puberty I stopped bending to social pressures to set a good example for her. The world is hard enough without worrying about every part of your body not being good enough. So depressing. - Posted from rhpmobile
