Questions Ive asked myself too. And apart from if Im with someone, I hardly ever watch it now. I was watching some crazy stuff, kind of a Curiosity killed the Cat thing? Then I got into reading about the tragic lives of some porn stars. Its an industry that has its uses.....we are not all mobile or have partners that we have sex with. We are the lucky ones. Some people with disabilities or that have chronic shyness will use porn for their sexual gratification. I dont feel that we should feel guily for watching it but I think we are all aware it is not all glamorous. The thing I got from watching porn was that i watched things that fuelled my curiosity and have tried more things sexually because of it. But Id much rather act out my fantasies now with someone close to me than watch it on the screen. The Porn Industry will never go away, its up to us how we use it and how comfortable we are with the amount of time we spend watching it. The thing I will say.....too many guys try and act out porn scenes in real life. To me, its a big turn off. Its NOT what I like when Im with someone but Im sure some people will be into it. Just my thoughts.

Its amazing how times have changed. The thread asking what people were doing at 19 made me think of how it has evolved over time. When I was a teen magazines were my only source. I remember after I started working, mail ordering VHS tapes from the ACT. I still have a few boxes here I may as well throw out. And these days it is only a mouse click away. Much of it strikes me as too unrealistic. Positions are for the camera not pleasure. And so formulaic, oral, 3 positions, then facial (too often onto a cringing face). I remember seeing a documentary recently and it had a table setup for the shoot with makeup and lube all set out. The final product shows the guy going straight from the pussy to the ass with no lube, and then into her mouth. No wonder people get unrealistic expectations. And then you get most asian porn which too often looks like rape. Or the girl is unconformable or in pain. Not a turn on. I much prefer amateur porn, find them much more realistic and the ladies tend to have more sex appeal. There are a lot of horny people out there willing to spend the money, so the industry is going to thrive. With a worldwide audience, even the minor fetishes are going to be represented.

With normal movies (and music), it is said that it is detrimental to the industry to download and watch/listen for free. Does the same not occur with porn considering that most will probably watch also for free? It certainly doesn't appear to be affecting supply. Is the effect that not paying drives down effective remuneration and conditions? - Posted from rhpmobile

I'm much the same as you Home Eric, much prefer porn where all concerned, whether it be a sole couple or groups, are clearly having a good time and comfortable with what it going on/being done to them. This tends to be in the more amateur or home-made arena. Professional porn I lost interest in years ago due to the ludicrous positions, disrespectful way the women were treated (being spat on etc) and perfect bodies. I listened to a radio forum recently where the porn industry was discussed and apparently statistics show people are now gravitating toward the home-made porn scene for the same reasons. So I think it's changing. But - a lot of porn sites now are tagging clearly professional movies as amateur or home-made. At first blush it looks home-made, but it usually doesn't take too long to realize that it's actually a pro job designed to look backyard.

I watch porn, I need something to get me started but always spend more time searching for a half decent clip that looks real and not acted, it's so annoying. Worst for me is watching women suck cock. All the faking in the world can't mask their boredom. The privilege of doing that, wouldn't matter how many cocks I sucked in a day, I'd worship every one and agree with general thoughts about the camera angle, though they have to do that so we can see, but licking pussy from the side for example. Actually don't get me started on licking pussy, my clit freaks out

wondered if anyone else shared my concern with homemade porn, in relation to how many people don't know they're appearing in a porn clip?

I like porn and am a paid member of a site. I only watch certain types of porn and it's always been something I do on my own. My tastes run to bdsm porn, bondage, and bi and gay men, public disgrace, gangbangs, that type of porn. So I guess you could say I like the violent aspect of some types of porn. I dont watch mainstream as I find it quite boring and oh so fake. I also am a paid member on Fetlife so I watch a lot of the videos people upload which are mostly amateur stuff. I don't believe porn will ever go away but I do hope that mainstream adjusts it style somewhat to show all those teenagers devouring it what sex can be.

I like amateur stuff - i've never been into professional porn its so unrealistic and acted and I'm not cool with the fact that someones getting paid to preform those acts. I'd not really thought about the fact that it could be revenge porn so you make a good point.

okay another question for the guys, miss 20 questions here You know at the start of a clip when you have a chick doing the really sassy stuff, pouting toward the camera, leaning over and pushing her boobs out with her hands and saying stuff like 'you want some?' 'you know you want some' goes on and on, all the while I'm thinking get on with it, how about making it remotely real ............ please, is that really sexy to a man? It turns me right off

I wonder about porn and it's place in my life. I often think I've been exposed to it since I was around 9 or 10 (through friends' older brothers) and it's done me no harm. And then I wonder if it hasn't kind of skewed things for me. People who know me would all say I'm respectful and have good relationships with women, but I have often felt it's important to have a dirty little secret, and often porn has been mine. Even though I generally seek out porn which appears to be made under what I believe to be ethical circumstances, mainstream stuff (in which female performers don't get treated in a way I'd consider respectful) has been part of my viewing habits too. And I think that porn being so freely available (as in gratis as well as ubiquitous) and lowered the remuneration of performers. I caught the tailend of a Louis Theroux doco in which he revisited performers and producers he met years earlier. All reported that the rise of 'tube' sites with almost limitless content had decimated their incomes. With so much amateur content, most of the performers are not getting paid. Even supposedly women-friendly sites such as Abby Winters (which is actually owned by a bloke) have attracted criticism from performers about not having any control over the content. But for all of this, I also think that there's nothing inherently wrong with watching people perform sex on camera, if they are willing to do so. It only becomes exploitative when it is monetised and there become financial winners and losers. In summary: I dunno

Sometimes your views are very black and white. That's fine if it works for you but there are grey areas for lots of people and their decisions aren't so easily reconciled. Surely you can appreciate that not everyone is like you or thinks like you do. I feel the same mixed feelings about porn. I like (some of) it, but I do have concerns with (some of) it. I actually paid for some porn for the first time recently, and one of the videos I paid for contained some pretty degrading stuff (directed towards the woman) that I wasn't expecting. Now, all of these vids have the main actor - whether it's a male or female - talking to camera both before and after the shoot, so you can supposedly be assured that they're loving the stuff they're doing no matter what it is. And I'm aware that many of them would love it. But in the back of my mind I'm also aware that some could perhaps just be saying what they need to. Whatever the case, that sort of more extreme degradation of people - woman or man - does absolutely nothing for me so I know to stay away from those vids in future. I also prefer the amateur stuff but as people have mentioned a lot of so-called amateur stuff these days isn't really amateur.

The more I looked (past the facade), the less I liked, and the less I could enjoy it. Now I just stick to my old tumblr - I feel since it's already there, I feel am not playing a part in its production

If I'm after a quick fix, then most of the American porn will do even though most of the women show unrealistic actions & have very artificial boobs. Most have no build up though a story - unlike most of the older tapes that were around before the digital age.Generally I find FF or FFM porn to have more of an acceptable story behind them. Porn on the internet? Just how old (or young) are some of the women featured? Are they over 18? There are some that appear to be quite young (too young)! And a lot of sites also have "nasties" ready to infect your PC.Reading the stories on this site can achieve the same effect as watching a sex act!

Especially the bit about Abby Winters - I know of the site and its content but didn't realise that it has its critics. Is it really true that it's run by a bloke? I kind of liked the thought of a lesbian collective running a porn franchise - say it ain't so Grouse! I guess it's no different than occasionally finding out that your favourite organic chocolate is actually manufactured by Nestle or that your hand-knitted Tasmanian scrotum-warmer was brought to you by Unilever. And yes countrytouch, I have like Grouse heard that the industry bemoans the effect of the 'tube' porn channels on profit, labour and wages. Although who's willing to bet that there are at least a couple of shitty producers willing to blame youporn or whatever for a paycut to performers and crew when he's actually adding another blowjob parlour to his San Fernando McMansion. Thanks all for chiming in, I suspected there'd be a range of views amongst the women and men, will keep reading comments by anyone else who's got a thought!
