following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain: a professional builder. thats the meaning of the word so some 1 whom cleans chewing gum of toilets seats is a professional just the same as a doctor or accountant.

I am new to all forums so no past experience.Professional sounds much better than teacher and it give a little mystery. After all it is only a label and does not describe who you are. ciaoHermes

Try reading the previous posts. http://www.redhotpie.com.au/Adult-Forums/PROFESSIONALS-25315http://www.redhotpie.com.au/Adult-Forums/ProfessionalsNo-2-25702At the end of the day if one is after sexual encounters, then it does not matter one iota what one does for a job!!

We have only recently taken to even looking at forums and wondered if others had raised the same points and have the same observations. Nice to see we are not alone. We'll keep watching the skies ;-)

I have just spent a few hours visiting (platonically) a couple I have befriended from another site . He is an unemployed labourer and she is a stay at home mum. They are obviously struggling financially but I was greeted warmly and introduced to their delightful teenage (almost a contradiction, I know, lol) children who were a reflection of a fine upbrining. We yarned over several cuppas and the time just flew. The conversation was stimulating, provocative and amusing and covered a wide range of topics. Amongst other things we discussed the pretentiousness and downright rudeness of some on the internet. By contrast, I recently attended a "society" dinner and had the misfortune to be seated with a group of tertiary educated intellectuals. There social skills, most notably table manners, were appalling and their conversation and interaction with others was virtually non-existent. The group was soundly reminded of the professions that these people had. I suppose it's a bit of an endorsement for the adage that beauty is only skin deep, but my battler mates get my nod for true professionalism in the attitude to life, their basic worth and humility.

Professional - as an adjective Professional - as a noun Hard to convey context in this medium...hence the previous long threads and great debate Just another word that does nothing....now maybe if it were a verb...

Putting if you are a professional in your profile is no different to putting you are a tradie, self employed, stay at home mum, or anything else that offers some discription about yourself, that is what a profile is for. Some people may not care about how you fill your days, many do, it is a very common question to ask what they do for a living when getting to know some one. In most cases it does not mean the person who states they are a professional, tradie or anything else is passing judgement on others, just as in most cases asking what someone does for a living is passing judgement, it is just part of finding out about the other person. All this is information does is give a little more insight into the type of person you are meeting. As I am sure most people will agree there are some highly qualified people who are boring as bat shit and unqualified unskilled people who are very interesting and visa a versa. Of course there are are those who do pass judgement on others based on what they do for a living or what others do, but they are normally up themself jerks regardless of what they do for a living. Seems a lot of fuss over nothing just because someone states they are a professional (implying Uni qualified profession). Giving an indication as to the type of work one does is no different to stating what they like to do on a weekend, what their drinking and smoking habits are, body type, size of their dick or breasts. Somethings are important to people when reading profiles, other things are not so important, what matters to one person maybe something others do not give a shit about.

...because I'm one of those people that does have it in their profile! Why? Well, it does describe me in some (albeit limited) way... I have a white collar job that requires a tertiary education etc... I'm not a builder or a plumber or a farmer or a fireman or any of those other well defined roles. But for me to explain exactly what I do... well it would take a while and really wouldn't be very interesting. So personally, I'm using the term as short hand. Why anyone would assume that because I use that term means I look down on (insert other role here) is beyond me - I don't.On the other hand, desserts makes a good point - it's really not helpful either way. Do I care whether the profile I'm looking at is of someone that happens to be a builder? Nope... well maybe if I had a thing about clean fingernails... LOL.I think maybe its time my profile got a revamp!

we are both professionals as well(thinks that makes us qualified to speak) but it even irks us when people announce they are professionals as we have found that they will frequently state or imply a number of things....therefore they must be more discreet than other people...therefore they cannot share pics or reveal phone numbers etc but would love to have ours...they assume you are not if you havent trumpeted it......their time is automatically more valuable and/or more scarce than yours....it is more likely they will expect you to do all the rearranging to fit into their schedule...and so on and so on.....you would hope that on an adult site like this EVERYONE would be equal, non-judgemental, more accepting and so forth sadly it is just another microcosm of the wider society...perhaps a professional anthropologist might want to comment ;-)Paul

It does make a difference. The rest of us don't put in hairdresser, bar person or whatever. It isn't really relevant for most situations on here.

Quoting 'Kileetrev' we're not bogans Trev ohhh, right - so you're tooo good for a mullet and a couple of old geminis up on blocks in the font yard? how uppity and judgemental Trev. You know, I've met some nice bogans in my time, sure as a Professional I looked down my nose at them - but once you got past the stale-VB-smell, HSV framed posters on the wall and fluoro-crochet coathangers in the wardrobe they were nice people (I think... their curtains were so thin, I had to get out pronto - not very discreet for a professional you know) (I kid, there are wankers and lovely people from all walks of life - sometimes the people you expect to have a great chat with turn out awful, and sometimes you feel you could talk forever to the most u nlikely people - even Arts students or Young Liberals.. ok, maybe the latter was going too far)

What is relevant to some is not relevant to others, why state you have brown eyes and light brown shoulder length hair, this does not make a difference and isn't really relevant to most situations here. If I was to meet a woman just for sex I could not really care what the colour or length of her hair was and could care even less about her eye colour. You put this information because it tells a little bit about you, as does stating you are a professional, tradie, mine worker, stay at home mum, you like dancing, are into fitness or anything else that goes part way to offering some discription of yourself. While there are some people here who are interested in meeting people for sex only and nothing more and therefore want to know very little about the person they are having sex with, which is their right and choice which is something I respect. There are also others here who to varying degrees want to know a bit a the person as well, which in the vast majority of cases would include trival stuff like what the person does for a living. As sydneyboy correctly stated there are wankers and lovely people from all walks of life (except maybe young libs) and yes this is a sex site where you would expect people to be less judgemental and more accepting of others, yet it appears there are many who are very quick to pass judgement on others simply because they offer a little bit of information in their profile about them.

To call yourself a professional can appear to be somewhat egotistical. 'Professional' is, in our view, how others should discribe your behaviour or work ethic. Not to self promote how busy or important you are. Why not simply say, I work in finance, the legal profession, adminstrative affairs, infastructure development (good one for builders), a government organisation, etc... There are a million and one wanky names for jobs now a days, a cleaner is now a Enviromental Hygene Technician, a receptionist becomes a Corporate Liasion Specialist, a data entry clerk turns into a Human Electronic Interface Operator. The sooner we stop reffering to ourselves as these daft names and reclaim basic language the better. Last year I (Mr USM) had the misfortune to need to look for new employment to help ends meet. After hours of trawling through countless job ads I noticed one major thing, the job titles didn't make sense. I came across one which required what appeared to be a 'Professional' with degree (or at least very good understanding) in astro-physics and fine knowledge of histrical events since the turn of the 17th century. What was this amazing job you ask, cleaner at the muesuem. I kid you not. They had used the word professional in a job ad for a cleaner (I am not ragging on cleaners one bit before anyone gets defensive). So come on, can't we leave the word 'Professional' to others so that they can use it to discribe true professionals and just admit that we work in the city, at a warehouse, are self-employed, etc... I think you'll find most people will respect you more for saying I work in health administration or career development. At least then we have an idea of who you are and what you do. Professional is just a word that should pre-fix something such as accountant, solider, chef, etc... It is not a job title. If you don't want to use your field simple use 'We/I work in the city' or 'We/I currently run an independent business'.

i usually gather from pofiles that read " im a professional' i think that maybe they want to appear more , trustworthy, that there respectable ? maybe a little cut above the rest. in terms of manners ect. or maybe they just believe that they exel in there job, or want us to believe. anyway were all here for similar reasons not do judge an dictate whats in a profile not that im having a dig at those people. the basic ideas is to present our selves in a postive light to attract others. i know i do. good day everyone

Woah who would have thought that one boring old word could stimulate so many threads! Really who cares? There was a thread asking who's hotter tradies, uniforms or professionals and everyone had their own thoughts on that one. So then wouldn't someone using "professional" be giving some indication to others on whether they might be suited? Plenty of people here are saying they don't get on with people who state this so really seems like a great word to use as a filter. Don't like "professionals" then don't message them.Live and let live I say.

The use of the word professional is an odd one ... we see no need to use it, and we will admit we usually pass on those profiles that do use it ... sorry, you guys just come across as a little thorny to us newcomers. Honest, well written in terms of who you are and what you seek and a few creative profile pics at the swinging level you think you are at is far more welcoming and appealing ... even if we still aren't interested. Stay sexy ... Sunny And Bi xx
