Right place right time. I suppose they have removed that particular equation from the 'Band gets recording contract' equation for some... instant stardom if you have the voice and can get to the finals... (Often the runners up do better than the winners, I'm told. I played and sang professionally for 12 years (till about 30 and we were popular in Sydney pubs and clubs... Central Coast and Wollongong... Did the pub circuit through the regional centres. Played with pretty much all the bands of the eighties... Selinas, War and Peace, Hilton etc. Even to 10,000 at Prince Alfred Park in Sydney... Some happened to either just have something indefinable or were in the right place at the right time, when the right person came along. Then lost all the money I made and bought a house with, to my ex... But no regrets... had an absolute ball and have never had a job since, that I can say I have ever gotten any satisfaction from or enjoyed in any way... Hence, I am re-educating to spend my the next 10 to 15 years doing something I will get much pleasure and satisfaction from...

He died in 1980 so if your age is accurate you'd of been roughly 17-18 when the great man died, ACDC basically were on world tour for 3 years prior to that with their initial success. So let's say you were 15 when they left, that's amazing! How'd you know Bon Scott? I'm enthralled! Sorry, I'm just an absolute nut for Aussie rock and I love to hear these fantastic stories of past. - Posted from rhpmobile

if you were honestly that good chev..... You'd have been signed up back then as record companies always have scouts out and about..... And..... You'd have sent them a demo if you thought you were any good too 😉😊 - Posted from rhpmobile

You could have gone on Pot of Gold. 😳 "Young Talent Time" wasn't a vehicle for talented people to compete and demonstrate their talents. It was a bunch of kids (gathered by Johnny Young) and chosen through an audition process. A few wen ton to become very successful..e.g. Danni Minogue (long before Kylie, even though she did perform on the show), Tina Arena, Natalie Miller and very early in the piece a little bloke named Jamie Redfern (who had success for a short time and the died in the arse). It was never a show for amateurs to showcase their talent...

You'd have sent them a demo if you thought you were any good too 😉😊 - Posted from rhpmobile That's the common misconception, in that if you're good, you'll be 'swept up' by some Record Company Exec and never look back... But for every successful artist/band, there are a thousand equally (or more) talented musicians and vocalists who were overlooked because of the decision of ONE person (who can't sing or play an instrument (They are called by Recording Comapanies, 'The Professional Manager'. Maybe many don't know that The Beatles and their Manager exhausted every single possibility with every recording company in England, until, just by chance, Epstein found about about a small subsidiary of EMI call Parlaphone, which made recordings of things such as the Goons and other comedy 'skit' outfits and weren't there to record music at all. George Martin, a classically trained musician, who happened to be the producer of this small outfit, admitted himself that he just saw (and heard) some indefinable in the four boys music and personalities that made him agree to a studio audition... If not for that one moment, one person and last ditch 'chance taking' we would never have heard of them. So things are not what they often seem and the Music industry is the most fickle and fraught with pitfalls (and plain dumb luck) than any other. I still do studio work (for TV and radio ads and the odd Doco). Mainly some Vocals and backing vocals... (only because of past contacts and previous experience known to others, in which 'word of mouth' counts more than anything. It's not changed and will always be simply an industry of opportunity, which unfortunately, in some cases, has nothing to do with talent.

Even as a DJ watching others I saw talent that nevergot launched. But talent is not just music and even in high school Iwas good at cricket. However there was one kid that bowled so fast you justabout shit your pants about getting hit yet, he never has been in any cricket teams PRO.My friend Ronnie however did make it into the Australian Balletand got to follow his talent.

But I do have a "what if" I was selected as a 6yo to go to a school for gifted kids. Sadly my parents split that year and their priorities were paying lawyers and generally fucking each other over rather than paying to send me to said school. So basically my "what if" is all about my education and what could have come from that.
