This might be a tough one

January 23 2013

Hey guys, with one of the best days of the year coming up and just around the corner and a lot of media involving the name change of Australia Day, what are your thoughts. I know what this day means to me, and how a lot of my friends and family feel this day means to them but what are your feelings... Do you support the change of the name to citizen day not Australia Day, I know I don't but just want to see what everyone else thinks?

Some citizens consider Australia Day a day of mourning, the day they lost their home and land. I don't see why we should change the name. Australia Day will mean something different to everyone changing the name to Citizen day doesn't change that.

More anal PC bullshit. With so many issues that are actually imprtant being ignored, why is our government wasting time with this?

It's important to some. As I said some people don't see Australia Day as a day of celebration and therefore want it changed.

...and I'm gratified to find out that the government is not wasting any time with it. The reports that Gillard intended a name change was merely a hoax. The name change was suggested in 2009 and Rudd firmly said 'no' and the matter hasn't been raised in any official context ever. Citizens of what? Tell me this - if the name were to change to 'Citizen's Day' how would this change what we are celebrating?

Australia Day has previously been known as Anniversary Day, Foundation Day, and ANA Day. Personally, I don't think we should be celebrating the arrival of the First Fleet in Sydney Cove in 1788, but rather the birth of a nation in 1901, when Australia changed from being a group of colonies to a federation. Coincidentally, this happened on New Years Day, so I don't think there'll be much support for the idea.

As I said above. I agree, I think it would make no sense to change the name.

but I’d like that rag taken out of the top corner. A reminder to all of us how this country was bled of men and dollars (or pounds) for it's first 150 years.I've often thought of having a democracy day holiday though. Where all our elections happen each year. Federal, State and local. Were we could all have a big BBQ and do our voting..The government being able to call elections when ever they want is daft. Elect 1/6th of the Senate and 1/3rd of the Reps each year. See how that keeps our governments accountable!!

That's my plan. I'll be in Brisvegas in a pool, drinking copious amounts of beer singing 'Sounds of Then' and 'Great Southern Land' until the cops come to shut me up. :-P

It's important to my foster brothers.my daughter in law and my granddaughter....all of whom are indigenous Australians. It's a day of rememberance and more, to the rest of us, it's a celebration of a new life in a new land. Leave it be, but let's keep the racial crap out of it.- Posted from rhpmobile

...the Tuesday officially as 'Chuck a Sickie" and make it a paid holiday so half the working population doesn't burn up a perfectly good leave day nursing a hangover.Problem solved....long weekend, don't break it if you can fix it first.

As is life when someone Celebrates there is always someone else who is in pain for a loss.We should get rid of this day and celebrate the 13 th of February ,the day K Rudd said sorry and Australia actually grew as a nation.
