also caters for the underprivileged or the disabled or just men and women that cannot for what ever reason meet a person for sex, prostitution is not dirty shameful or wrong it is a service required in every community for many reasons, of course you are going to have your negatives with forced prostitution , and slavery typed scenarios , drug addicts , and so on , but if run safely with respectful clients and staff its a service needed , and one that will last the test of time . - Posted from rhpmobile

Maybe it's because the best form of contraception in Australia is wedding cake.

We have no concerns about prostitution provided adults are making informed choices about working in the industry, and are appropriately remunerated. Obviously there is a market and demand for services.

you can only wank so much. I went a year without it and left an ex over it. Gave her the house, the lot. Thankfully I get my fair share now otherwise I'd see a prostitute - Posted from rhpmobile

we still have big hangup about this oldest business in the world. People will scream murder when a brothel opens close to them. I believe we have to say thank you to women who work in this business because be honest there are many many males who need to go and see them. Without them many more of us would be raped. I think their should never be a stigma towards them. Legalize prostitution, these are people who sell their body and its their business we should honor it in this way. Again Australia has to learn a lot from European countries. Cheers

Some of these girls have regular customers and become confidantes as well as a sexual release. Most of us have regular FWBs. The only difference is, they are getting paid. Im just stating a fact............in the words of a male friend of mine...."youre sitting on a goldmine there". I agree, they help a lot of males who need their services and I think that brothels should be legalised.

Someone who would rape a woman is someone with deep psychological issues. Those issues don't go away simply because they get to have sex with a prostitute. Those men objectify women and it has little to do with a sexual release. And this is the central problem with prostitution.......it objectifies women, it makes them a commodity. Google an article "Pretty woman hides an ugly reality" by Judy Harris Kluger.

... or maybe... a lot of guys seek external validation through sex. But OP.... your receptionist "friend"... ..... how does she know these guys are married? Is there a questionnaire?Does she do a check of left hands for rings and removed ring marks? And did you give a clue to your knowledge with the word.... admitted. Curious. DG

Freya is right, rape is not about sex but overpowering, hurting and degrading a woman (or man). It's about violation, not sexual gratification. Klondike, seeing a prostitute is crazy behaviour? In The Netherlands prostitution is completely legal, providing the workers pay their their taxes like everyone else. That's the right way to me. I think your statements are rather silly and uninformed and you could really do with reading up on the subject.

yep having studied serial killers and warped minds. Rapists, it's far from the sexual gratification. As was said, it's power and control. The fact you are powerless or so fearful to stop them is their 'buzz'...its a sad twisted world and not wanting to move from the original OP I guess the number of woman is amazing who have actually been raped, usually by people they know! Prostitutes etc deserve a lot of respect I believe. - Posted from rhpmobile

We should follow Europe, prostitution and cannabis should be legalised here, take taxes, take it out of the hands of the drug lords, so when young ppl want to experiment they aren't exposed to these type of ppl. Cheers P.L.

at the experience in the Netherlands, it has increased the level of human and sex trafficking. Two thirds of prostitutes are illegal immigrant women mainly from West Africa and Eastern Europe and the level of human trafficking and trafficking in underage prostitution is high. The thing is, most people ignore the human trafficking aspect of prostitution, which is a huge problem throughout the world and only focus on the sexual aspects. The 'pretty woman' version of prostitution is a long way from reality

My first long term girlfriend, 11 years, was a working girl. She did pay tax and a lot of it, the government does not care how you make your money as long as you pay your tax. Prostitution is as close to legal as it can get. Workers are registered and must be tested every 3 months. There are strict rules as to when and where. For those that enjoy sex and people, it can be a good job, you set your own hours and you can say "NO" She was making up to $2000 a night/day way back in the mid 1990s Unfortunate there is a lot of negative stereo typing towards workers, which got to her in the end. Now she is a nurse. Prostitution also attracts many that are heavy drug users and can be a one way ticket to destruction which is sad. Though for the majority it is a good way to get a financial start in life, buy and pay off a house, study, etc...

Yes I worked in a brothel, and yes it was on reception. I did it a few nights as I was doing a portrait of a madam. So I wanted to get a feel for things so to speak. How do you know they are married, because they tell you. They tell the girls a lot about themselves. Women that work there from a wide range, ie students mostly from over seas. Local women I think the oldest was around 56. the best one was a woman around mid 40 who when she stepped out of the brothel looked like Julie Andrews. She wore a wig and would transform herself. She also treated her clients like they were lovers not just a dollar in her pocket. One guy I actually went out with him for dinner, was a millionaire from London who came over a few times a year and always had the same woman, and would take her out of the brothel for the evening and go to dinner. She was not on that night, but no i never had sex with him. Trafficked women now make up most of the prostitutes you see today. Just look at the adds in the paper, girls from Asian countries. Many are underage. I had a madam come to me at my studio re pictures and ask if I knew any Australian girls that wanted to work as a prostitute. She said the Ausie girls can make more. I was curious and ask the price of a girl these days and its really cheap. Look at the adds at how cheap it is now for a blow job. Next time you go to a brothel just think to yourself is this girl old enough? Do you think you are paying her a fair price for her service? Legislation has made it harder to run a brothel as the girls now are contractors and hire the rooms, and set their own price. Unless of course in those cheap places with the trafficked women. Yes we have a ton of them here in Perth. I have to agree with Fit. Read the book "half the sky" I think you will be horrified and yes it has all the research in there about slavery . there are more slaves in the world today than in any point in history. As for rape. Lytonia has a point, if we talk about deprivation re sex. It is about power, and control as well as sex, as rape is now used as a weapon in war. Rapists are not always like you see in the movies guys. Its a lot more subtle than that. I worked with a lot of sex offenders. and all you guys, will listen up. I would bet my left breast that most women on this site have been date raped by that nice boy they went out with. You know that little bit of pushy come on babe, or the girl is a bit drunk? just drunk enough for you to slip one in. The internet and free pussy is driving down the price for hooking. Why do men come here instead of dating a woman first for a while and then perhaps slowly seducing her? We are advertising the goodies up here girls and at what price? some gold mine....mine is tapped out and it was always fools gold anyway.

You say that the legalizing of prostitution in the Netherlands has increased the level of human and sex trafficking. However even the Dutch Rapporteur website says this: "The Rapporteur concludes that it is not (yet) possible to give an answer to the question of the extent to which legalisation of prostitution leads to more human trafficking. The answer would require an analysis of the human trafficking that is visible compared with the invisible human trafficking and this calls for the collection of more reliable data – both quantitative and qualitative – concerning visible and invisible human trafficking."

people connect legal sex work with human trafficing and drugs and alcohol and what not. Prostitution exists in every country - some countries have legislated it and made is safer both for provider and client to use this service, some haven't. Sex workers have a market because many people cannot get sex otherwise or cannot get the sex that they want. it is simple as "why do hairdressers exist" - because some people prefer to have a professional cut their hair to doing it themselves or having their partner/Mum etc to do it. I also struggle with the social stigma associated with someone being a sex worker (I am not but I know person who is and that person is very very smart, intelligent and more compassionate than most of the people I work with) . A sex worker might "sell their body"for a limited amount of time but I an office worker "sell my brain" for a limited amount of time - why is one regarded higher than the other one on the social scale. What is the difference between a sex worker selling their body for work and a labourer doing the same at a construction site or at a factory or on the veggie field? They all pay taxes - so why is it different?? i just dont get it..

Trafficking is huge all over the world and the biggest contributor/cause is prostitution. Over 75% of prostitutes in Netherlands are illegal immigrant women, not Dutch locals and the same thing is happening here. It's a terrible industry for that reason and the world would be much better off without it. I'm not making judgements on those women who do it voluntarily, but spare a thought for the millions who are sex slaves......they are the majority and they are the victims.

Great analogy, just what I say. As a Truckie, I've "prostituted" myself for a lot less the the girls get, I'll be broken down & busted in 10yrs. A lot of prostitutes do it to get ahead, get thru Uni, make a new start and move on. A mate of mine was seeing a pro, she initiated A/Hr's contact, she was a woman that worked for $, but wanted satisfaction after work. She was a great chick, good cook, clean house, easy to get on with, the only thing that flipped him was the amount of tatt's she had, Auntie's complaining etc. These days tatt's are the norm, he'd have been better off to stay with her than the "money wasting, Gold Digger, cheating sponge" he ended up with. Cheers P.L.

That's a different argument altogether, and not what I commented on in your post. Of course it's awful people are forced into prostitution against their will. What I said was there is no conclusive evidence that legalizing prostitution increases sex trafficking. I don't think that's what this forum is about though and we're both getting off topic. Sorry OP.

Agree, though as has been mentioned of different threads, many people visit sex workers for others reasons. Posters have said they have a lot respect for prostitutes. Personally I respect any person who works hard to make an honest living for themselves. I do really admire those workers who cater to the severely physically and mentally handicapped. I think that takes a special kind of person.

"The Rapporteur concludes that it is not (yet) possible to give an answer to the question of the extent to which legalisation of prostitution leads to more human trafficking. To me, 'the extent to which' concedes the increase in trafficking, it just can't put a number on the extent of the increase.

Be prostitution, imo it's far better to make it legal and regulate it than not.I would think it's the illegal brothels where trafficked women would be found..So much more can and should be done about this very real human tragedy..XxFreya

You can read it as "The extent, if any" as well. More from the same article : "Scale of prostitution and human trafficking unknown The exact scale of the prostitution sector in the Netherlands is unknown. At the moment, there are no reliable figures available for the total number of women and men working in prostitution. As a consequence, it is unclear how many of them work in the sector voluntarily and how many are forced. Evidently, a number of prostitutes are exploited, but because of the hidden nature of both human trafficking and prostitution, it is difficult to say how large this proportion is. There is a lack of reliable data on the total scale of human trafficking. Attempts to estimate the scale of human trafficking on a global scale have not resulted in a reliable estimate thus far. The lack of harmonised definitions of the phenomenon and the lack of uniformity in data collection and analysis impose barriers to comparative analyses between countries." Of course we could continue to debate, but I'll bow out now. The OP is not responding to anything said and I don't want to keep going off topic.

Quoting 'Fit73' at the experience in the Netherlands, it has increased the level of human and sex trafficking. The 'pretty woman' version of prostitution is a long way from reality I don't agree with what you are insinuating - which is that legalisation causes increased human trafficking. There is probably a correlation with legalisation and illegal trafficking within the Netherlands, but to blame something as the cause just because of a correlation isn't the best way to analyse things. At least until you have found a few more examples. But the thing is, prostitution is just so culturally diverse and operates differently wherever you look. The Netherlands is a popular spot for tourists to seek paid-sex. The demand for paid-sex within one geographic area is probably more likely the cause. Compare the Netherlands to Bangladesh. Prostitution is illegal in Bangladesh - yet prostitution is rife. The city of Daulatdia houses over 1,300 sex workers - most under the age of 18. Look at prostitution in Thailand. Most of these girls aren't victims of trafficking - but victims of poverty. They choose to hit the tourist hubs in search of a quick buck. When you strip it down - legalisation gives sex-workers more rights and safety. More importantly I think it allows them to be a part of society - instead of having to hide.
