💀 Time to Prepare?... ⚰️

August 11 2018

Mortality is something that's been in the air lately... I don't want to make it too heavy a topic but don't it to be dry as dust *cough* either. Part of this stems from a discussion I was having with one of my kids the other day who mentioned making a vinyl record out of my ashes. The song that sprang to mind for me, my absolute favourite, is the VH1 Divas Live performance by Celine Dion - I'm Alive. I wondered what thoughts are about how prepared we need to be in the way of having a will, and how much preparation there should be for our 'funeral' whether it be funeral or cremation and finally, what's to become of our remains then? Please play nice, Peachy

Before my father passed away, my parents were going to retire in Canada. They still will be. Wishes are when my mother passes, I will be taking both their Ashes to Canada to scatter. I believe it's ready important and respectful to discuss everything in detail (Wills, EPOA, Advance Health, statement of choices, wishes etc). I did with my dad, right down to what songs he wanted played at his funeral. By doing this, it really helped us tremendously with our grieving progress. Ms Foxy

We should prepare mentally, less physically.. Aware of our mortality make the most of each moment, don't waste our time and do good - Posted from rhpmobile

If anybody even thinks about playing Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler I shall haunt them forevermore. I don't give a shit about having any kind of ceremony at all when I shuffle off - I certainly won't be around to participate. I would like to be cremated and have my ashes sprinkled at certain places of significance in my life. And that is all. As for divvying up any finances that may be left, I think it'll all go to the RSPCA to be honest. I don't know, haven't done a will yet.

To work a few years ago, the organisation I worked for, as part of their protocol informed us that we had to have our affairs in order before we could commence work, in case of emergencies I hadn’t really thought about it before but went and saw a solicitor . I told the solicitor I didn’t have at that time much in the way of tangible assets just debt but as he pointed out to me that even though my super fund was small, the death benefit attached to it was significant and had I given it careful thought as to where I really wanted that money to go in the event of my death ? I made a will ,which took 10 minutes and at a cost I think of about $150 Now that I have some assets, my status hasn’t changed and I still don’t have kids but I’m still good with the beneficiaries of my will I did also write then that I’d like to cremated and have my ashes scattered somewhere significant in my life, like back home. Since then I’ve visited some beautiful places, so the location may change but it’s cremation for me , even though it’s traditional in my culture and religion, to be buried No plans on going soon

For your kids sake. Making choices for a dying parent is not easy. It is quite traumatic. Make sure you have an -Enduring power of attorney -Enduring power of gaurdianship -Advanced health plan (As in no resuccitation etc) -Executor for your will and have it written out clearly and precisely -Funeral plan Most of all.... DO IT NOW. - Posted from rhpmobile

You can do all the above free. Although a will kit will cost about 20$. Google the public trustee site for the EPOA and the EPOG. They are free. - Posted from rhpmobile

My kids are young and I have bequeathed them everything equally. Although I have set an age they are able to be in full control of their inheritance, my executor has guidelines that they are able to access funds before that age to buy a house or travel. However I haven't prepaid or arranged my funeral. Probably should do that to take the stress away from my loved ones. Music wise I always thought Queen's Who wants to live forever would be appropriate. Also KD Lang's version of Crying over you. But something more fun at the end, maybe the Timewarp, YMCA or the Chicken Dance to make people laugh and get up and dance.

If one has estate/properties/super make sure you get yourself a good reputable Estate Lawyers (that cross their T's and dot their I's) * knows their shit. I just got mine done recently. I didn't realise how in-depth Estate Planning can be. 3K and over 22 pages later, I am glad I did mine. I highly recommend it. Things can get real messy if it's not done right. Sometimes a death can bring out the worst in people/families. Shame when that happens. Ms Foxy

Ms Foxy Sure as shit does - a major rift developed in our (extended) family over $15,000 which was all that was left of a departed members' fortunes. $15,000. Two warring factions as a result at the funeral and wake. Disgusting.

I don’t care what happens to my remains once I’m dead. I’ll be dead. All my debts will passed on to my wife or kid depending who goes first unless they get written off. I’ve been to enough funerals to know they are pretty crappy affairs and boring. Tbh I’d be happy if they just put me in a cardboard box and burnt me in a furnace and left the remains in there. Life is for the living not to be reminded of my quite unremarkable life.

I want mine to go to people that will love and appreciate them after I'm gone, I don't care if they're complete strangers, as long as they don't end up in the landfill that our country is already overflowing with. I can feel a list coming on... I have myself listed as an organ donor, it fits in with my ideals. For anyone curious, it is possible to offer yourself to science and they pay for the disposal of your body. Cremation of my remains is my ideal, maybe to let the ashes fly free with the wind by the sea to leave as little a trace of me. That's what we did with our fur baby on Mother's Day this year by taking a drive to our fav holiday place to let her blow away. It was a beautiful day. Thank you for your posts everyone, I appreciate all your thoughts that have given me more to think about, as usual! Peachy
