Unauthorised use of .....

December 26 2014

my profile pics or any other info will result in legal ramifications, etc. etc. etc. * What do you think when you see these warnings on profiles?*Are they just empty promises and how effective can they possibly be?*As with anything published on the internet there is always the risk of info getting into the hands of those it is not intended for. Isn't it the responsibility of the individual to take measures to protect their own privacy by selecting carefully what they put out there? *Same thing applies to pics you keep on your phone or any other device. Each time I have had to update to a new mobile phone I am amused by how fast the techs go to my galleries on the pretext of checking ALL my pics have transfered "safely". No nude selfies hidden in galleries leaves them looking quite disappointed....LOL I was embarrassed once when a family member was helping me with my laptop and came across some very graphic stuff and learnt my lesson that you never know when you will be sprung!*LG

I think people see that in other peoples profiles and think they need to add it too. I invite Sydney University and all other institutions to use and or refer to my profile. Because I charge $1,000,000 to do so.

That's what I think. Nothing is private in the wide world of the web and that includes your phone. Did you know I can take anyones pics off here and post them anywhere I like and be anon. Just Sayin.

Universities etc. etc. could never get the using of profiles and pics past any ethics committee, and anyone on here can do whatever they want. A friend had his entire profile copied and used here by another man. My own profile has been screen-capped and shown to people before, nothing I could do about that. I have my pics watermarked these days, so at least they're less likely to be passed off as someone else's photos.

kinda pointless and it makes those that include it look less than attractive to me.... To me it suggests that if things turned pear shaped for whatever the reason I'm going to be sued, slandered and God knows what else...I just stay the hell away from them - Posted from rhpmobile

The appearance of those useless warnings on every second profile you read these days shows just how easily people will follow the crowd without any thought or research as to what it is they are following. Someone on my fb friend list also recently posted a similar type of thing in regards to fb privacy, which claimed to legally protect the user if they posted it as well. I was going to mention that it was useless as tits on a bull but knew they probably wouldn't listen anyway. Funny thing is I've seen some profiles by people who seem otherwise to be very switched on, who have included the warning. All I can think is that a lot of people have very little idea about the issues when it comes to the internet and privacy. With the Sydney University thing I can maybe understand that some people who don't know anything about the processes involved in university research might believe that story...but still to think that simply putting that on your profile would give you any sort of legal protection is taking the belief too far. I admit that if I see the warning on a profile it does lessen my interest (if I was at all interested to start with). Think what you will about that.

I used to be one of those people when I joined RHP... every second profile had the warning so I followed the crowd and did the same lol. A year later and I'm a little bit more savvy, as in it doesn't provide any legitimate protection, so I got rid of it... along with 99% of my original profile lol. Much love, Elle xx

Think twice about what you put on the internet, it may live forever. What will those people researching their family trees think in 200 years time.

My single profile is closed as screenshots of my profile was taken, posted to facebook and all my family members were tagged. The person responsible did not get the shock value expected. My family were already aware. Not that they needed the photographic evidence. A certain level of privacy is expected on here. It should not have to be spelt out. Ms S - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'cs_play_13' My single profile is closed as screenshots of my profile was taken, posted to facebook and all my family members were tagged. No one here will ever get access to my Facebook account, nor will ever be told my last name. Frankly, I think doing that is asking for trouble, you just don't know whose hands it may fall into. (Again: Don't give anyone the mobile number you used to set up your Facebook account, unless you have triple-checked your privacy settings are solid. People can easily trace you!)

I totally agree with you. This was someone outside RHP. Anyone can google, be recognized, what they choose to do with the information is clearly up to them. Ms S - Posted from rhpmobile

When I see those warning I just roll my eyes. First for demonstrating heard mentality. Second for the complete lack of understanding of what the legal ramifications are. Most of these disclaimers reduce what rights are yours by law. Its not who you say can't use it, its who you don't say can't use it. If I say no institution may use this information and forget to mention individuals, private companies, etc... you just removed what remaining copyright you have. Why do you think copyright licences are so long? Third and most damming, people with those notices have clearly not read the RHP terms of use. I quote RHP "terms of use" link that can be found at the bottom of every page."... to RedHotPie an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use, copy, perform, display and/or distribute any Content originally or subsequently posted by you in any public areas of this site (collectively 'Public Content') and prepare derivative works of, or incorporate in other works, such Public Content, and to grant and authorise sublicenses of the foregoing." And... "RedHotPie expressly reserves the right to assign or sell all or any rights or duties under this agreement to any third party and, ..." You give shared copyright to Everything you add to RHP that is on public display, including images, posts to the forums, and what you say in the chat rooms. This makes the disclaimers people put on their profiles null and void if RHP choose to sell that information on. They can sell it to anyone they wish, including the copyright they share with you, if you have any left after you slapped a half assed licence on your profile.

You do not have to put copyright on everything you create it is already expressly implied under Australian law that you the creator of the content have copyright. If you want to mess with the lawyers just add. This content shall be used for Good, not Evil. Can guarantee that will get an out of court settlement if there is a dispute.

Privacy is a huge thing for me ... not for any other reason than I want to reserve the right to give my info to whom I choose. So I'm not a fan of any automatic sharing social media sites including Facebook. Yes, I know about the Privacy settings. But things are always being updated and changed. I can't be bothered trying to keep up with it all. I prefer to use my own discretion. LG
