Vasectomy

September 02 2013

As far as birth control goes nothing is simpler than the male vasectomy, after two children I took myself of to the clinic ( Marie Stopes). I arrived at 8am, snip, snip, cup of tea and a Mars bar and I was in the car at 9am. A few days later I was back at work.Just read the "pill" thread to get an idea of the complexities and hazards facing our women when they have to deal with birth control. Obviously if you see a family and children in your future it is not for you, but for many men it is an obvious and simple step that the vast majority do not take.I would like this thread to discuss vasectomy, why you have one, why you won't, fears, stories, good and bad.My reasons where simple, I had my children, my partner at the time had ongoing issues with "the pill" it was the obvious thing to do.My sex drive was unchanged, until I separated then it went ballistic ! So no issue there.Semen production is unchanged, colour and taste, unchanged, diet has far more influence !No personality change except for being a bit more relaxed and probably helped in the confidence department, hey, it's one less thing to worry about !Okay, over to you.

I had my vasectomy at 29. Due to my age I had the 20 questions though, why, what happens if you breakup with your partner blah blah..... My thoughts were simply its less invasive for men to undertake such surgery. I also had had my kids, but further to that I chose 1 woman to have kids with and I didn't want to be someone that - in the event we did breakup - had 5 or 6 kids to 2 different women or more. Lastly my answer to what if I met someone else, if they couldn't accept that I didn't want any more kids, then it wouldn't work out anyway. - Posted from rhpmobile

2 of which were unplanned, there was no way on earth that Hubby was going anywhere near me again until he'd had it done. My Dad and brother were even threatening 2 bricks, all threats were unnecessary and Hubby quite happily went off for the snip a few weeks after the birth of our youngest. He did go back to work too early though (lapping up the attention from the ladies in the office ;) and had some bleeding, so back home to the frozen peas for a few more days.Yes frozen peas, a tip for any of you gentlemen that have the need to ice yourselves, frozen peas mold much more comfortably than ice packs!

Thanks for putting this forum topic up. I want to get the snip myself but have worried about taking time off work etc. I have heard horror stories, but also people say its a breeze. I have no children and no plans of adding to the overpopulated planet for my own satisfaction.

The best life call I have ever made... Why should the girls go through the alternative. Have the snip... And yes the frozen peas are the best... Have more sex drive than ever and yes no difference in performance Suggest pineapple juice and celery to give that full body sweet tasty experience for your partners, I have these most days!!! Any takers. WCG Wickered Cheeky Grin Yours the Lion xx- Posted from rhpmobile

To say it will be all smooth sailing would be negligent. The truth is, there is every chance your balls will swell up to cricket ball size due to bruising. However, I got sent home with panadene forte, endone, and some anti nausea drugs to manage pain etc. I took one panadene forte for a headache and that was it. I was back on the nest 24 hours later only because my then wife thought she might hurt me. I had 2 stitches on each side of my scrotum, and absolutely no pain at all. I think it's also pertinent to say, that its about 2-3 months depending on sexual activity levels and also up to 2 pathology screens before you're cleared of being sterile. My first test came back with active sperm, but my second came back no sperm activity detected- Posted from rhpmobile

It would be pretty hard to argue the way you've presented it OPI would agree that if it was necessary it is far less imposing or dangerous for the man to step up.... but given you should still wear a condom regardless I can't justify it without a 'no other choice' scenario. No pills, implants or operations for either party is the healthiest option ... and you can never be certain what the future holds. I know that in my time so far I've changed a few previously held 'core' beliefs that at the time I would have sworn black and blue I never would ?

Cheers for the heads up! I'm a bloody sook when it comes to any medical procedures, so I guess that's the only thing that's been stopping me.

But I currently work in a specific medical section that closely associates with the vasectomy area, and I just want to add that: 1) Unless you (as in other gents than the OP) are 200% sure that you do not want to have kids anymore, you should not get vasectomy done lightly! Because after a certain number of years, you will be highly unlikely to be able to produce again when you get it reversed, even with the use of IVF! 2) For any men who are seriously considering getting a vasectomy done, please make sure that you do go back to your Dr/Specialist at least a few times post the surgery to have yourself tested, just to make sure that it is done properly and that you won't be reproducing again. There have been cases where men got vasectomy done, but didn't go back to get themselves tested post the surgery, so they ended up still producing. I am not trying to be a smart arse here, just wanting to share what I've learned from my job :-)- Posted from rhpmobile

Yes, the clinic I used, Marie Stopes, was quite emphatic about the post surgery testing. I had three tests before being given the all clear. These test were done via the local pathology lab so no major inconvenience.

I always planned to depart this world with as many working parts as possible, and just the thought of anyone going near the crown jewels with a sharp implement was enough to give me a slight feeling of nausea.....however, times change. While I haven't yet had the snip, it's something I'm thinking more and more about. Not quite ready to take the plunge, but getting there..

My now ex wife was pushing for me to get snipped after the birth of our second. I'm not really sure why I resisted, but I did. Had she had side effects from the pill I might have buckled, but she didn't. After we divorced 4 years ago, I gave it serious thought, but decided not to, on the grounds that like Chevy, young chicks are always throwing themselves at me... Err sorry, I've now removed my hand... I just felt that if I met someone new who really wanted us to have kids then I didn't want that to be off the table... My last two gf's were beyond children, and my current "regular" is too, so I don't really see the point now. If I was seeing someone fertile and we didn't want children together then I will go and get the snip. As a workmate of mine would joyously tell me after the birth of my 2nd child, "Mate... It fuckin hurts, don't believe them... It fuckin hurts, and you won't get any more sex than you do now... Ohh... one more thing... It fuckin hurts !" Hp xo 💌 Still firing live rounds...

But if you're in this place... Then the taddies are only landing on your belly. Is there a benefit to this elective surgery ? Hp xo 💌 Every sperm is sacred, every sperm is great, If a sperm is wasted, god gets quite irate...

I just went into my GP, he sent me to the local hospital, with a referral, as I didn't want anything to do with local anaesthetic, so I was knocked out cold in the day surgery unit, as like you I'm a bit of a sook lol- Posted from rhpmobile

A great thread. Kudos. Some men refuse to have the snip even after they've made the decision to stop populating the world. It is only their fear that stops them. Women have to go through with pills, IUD's or implants. We are scared of that stuff too. And when you see what that shit can do to our hormones ... well ... be afraid. Having the snip may be the lesser of two evils. Just sayin' ...

I got it done 13 years ago after the birth of my 2nd daughter....best thing!! In and out of the clinic within an hour. Ice pack and rest for a day or so, then took it easy at work for a bit...but no hassles. So nice not to have to worry about birth control!!

You are quite right about follow up... I went back a couple of times after the procedure and also took in a couple of semen samples just to make sure it had all gone well and there would be no 'accidents'.

Something scares me about ever getting this done... I don't know why...I think the idea of anything snipping or snapping down there freaks me out - despite it being a very simple operation. One day I think I'd definitely take the plunge, but not till it becomes too stupid not to get it done.

But a hat still needs to get stuck on it for sex outside of a 'relationship'I don't let anyone else near mine w/o one on ...........don't want anything, I haven't had already (which is v limited)...don't know where my beautiful flower has been or their dangerous manhood has been dipped.so even if a guy told me he's had one, I'd be dubious..and tell him hat on thanks

Guys should not let women endure the alternative. It really is very simple compared to the alternative....!!! Mine was double stitched so was clear from the first check and all others were clear.. No free to make love without concern... Subject to STD precautions of course but a real bonus when all playing are std free.....- Posted from rhpmobile

Certainly agree with all the above comments. Any bloke that puts his partner through a Lap.Sterilization because he is to 'manly' for a vasetomy is not held in high regard with us. Since my vasectomy Miss Sunnias has enjoyed sex to a higher level...no thought of the possibility of pregnacy . Note to self: buy pineapple juice- Posted from rhpmobile

before you go and decide on a snipper Several of our friends and Mr Wren went to one dr who was awesome - they had to pay a small amount out of pocket though but it was smooth sailing for all of them. another friend didn't want to pay (wanted to buy a surfboard instead) so went to someone he hadn't heard reviews of and ended up in lots of pain. so not saying you have to pay $$ - but do ask around and get referrals from mates if you can
