Totally agree, equal rights for everyone. Even if I don't understand what the big fuss about getting married is. :)

The U.K. had a female primeminister in 1979. It took us thirtyone years to catch up there and look what we ended up with.

and most factional parliaments on the globe to know when to vote and when to shut the fuck up and let democracy breathe .... Let that be a lesson for the leaders of this country ...

This will be one of those things, like the white Australia policy that the next generation will look back upon and shake their heads. Wtf! How did it stay like this for so long. Time for Australian pollies to grow some balls and tell the right wing Christian lobby to get stuffed. IMHO... Sooner rather than later.

One exception...and again go easy on the 'reply with quotes' as my last post probably has the knives out left right and centre lol. A lot of topics are just not a simple yes or no, yay or nay answer. There are a lot of topics within the one. I'm not sure of the article or legislation but it is great news to allow same sex to marry. Why should anyone be denied the right to love in an official way. The only sticking point i have is how it is legislated. I've found a lot of gay people seem to be more focused on being recognised because they feel inferior because they are a minority rather than sticking to what the issue is about. Its about giving gay people the right to marry not about altering the current marriage act between a man and a woman. There seems to be anger and selfishness amongst minorities these days where the focus is on breaking down the majority. If seperate legislation will be drawn up for example as "2013 Gay marriage act" thats great...but if Britains current marriage act is amended thats not the answer or true goal in what was meant to be achieved.

Could be as early as next year or if Abbot gets in then who knows when. Ill predict that it will be next year. Abbot will lose the election, there will be a change of opposition leader and that detestable no conscious vote will be removed. Gillard will give full support knowing that she has gained legitimate approval of her government and not appease the right faction so much. Equality for all.

"There seems to be anger and selfishness amongst minorities these days where the focus is on breaking down the majority" I'm not sure what you meant when you said that. Is that really true? And what's the harm in amending the current marriage act? Marriage between two people in my mind should be the same for everyone.- Posted from rhpmobile

I see nothing wrong with those who live a alternate lifestyle having the same rights as the rest of us... It will come, it has to. Just a matter of when... ?Jay

Quoting 'Enigmaoflove' Its about giving gay people the right to marry not about altering the current marriage act between a man and a woman. ...for example as "2013 Gay marriage act" thats great... Ah, but is it?Replace some of nouns and see how they sound. The Marriage Act vs The Negro Marriage ActThe Fairwork Act vs The Womans Fairwork ActThe Superannuation Act vs The Polyamorists Superannuation ActThey sound a bit... wrong, right?Regardless of if you believe gay couples should be allowed to marry, I'd argue that you'd have to agree there aren't degrees of equality. It's binary ;)(The word 'Negro' used here for dramatic effect, knowing full well it's historical context and offensiveness)(Disclaimer 'device' shamelessly borrowed from DLD without consent)

To think that changing the act is just a gay issue. The intersex and transuxel community benefit by the simple changing of words as well. There are a lot of laws that are associated with the current wording. Once its changed these laws can become non existant. As an example. Ive met one couple where the husband under went surgery to to be more congruent with her mind. She cannot change her birth certificate as she is still married and they do not want to get divorced. Now they travel regularly and she has an M on her passport. You cant change that unless your birth certificate reflects your gender. Now say they have a car accident overseas and she is taken to a male prison because her passport identifies her as male. The consequences could be rather tragic. All this because our stoopid politicians wont let gay people marry. Its not about breaking down the majority and trying to get oneupmenship and sticking it in hetero faces. Its about equality. And Messo. I often employ word substitution to highlight the inappropriatisness(spelling ?) of some of the things I take objection too and most of the time people can see why Im offended.
