What is your dream job?

October 31 2012

I will start it off, i would love to go back to asia or maybe africa and teach english to the children again. I did this when i finished school for three months and loved every minute of it. The kids are so awsome and eager to learn. Sure to be an experience i will never forget.

I have been in hospitality since I was 14 and stayed with it because It's what I'm good at. I've only recently started to see it as a career though and now I'm working towards a michelin title. Maybe on a cruise liner.

I (Mr) have my dream job. But, it's so niche, just searching on google for the job title reveals all our personal details. Was told it wasn't a viable niche. Was told there was never any money to be made. It was a 'hobby' at best. Within two years I had a 12 month waiting list. A year later that stretched to 24 months. In my tenth year of business next year, and I have a 30 month waiting list, and I only take open the order books for 2-3 months each year. Ive considered raising prices, but I'd rather pick and choose the clients I want to work with. My stuff either sells back to me to on sell again (at a higher price to 'beat the waiting list'), or goes for considerably more than the new price, on the second hand market. One item I made, was originally $5500. It sold 18 months later for $50,000, and then a month later to a museum/collection for $100,000. Wish I got some of that...I work when I like, for as long as I like. Ive worked with, and been guests of international 'name' people. Only a couple months ago, I was approached by one of Richard Branson's advisors, and asked if we could work together. I said no.Ive been the subject of a reality program, but then decided I wasnt ready for it, and stopped the release. Ive had documentry film makers, marketting students, magazines, radio stations, etc etc all want to study my business, and share my story.I had a column in an major magazine, until I decided I didnt like the exposure (or recognition, rather) and prefer to get less business and not be noticed.Ive worked with, or met, every one of my heros. Ive travelled the world, and been recognised by face, on the streets of other countries. Ive had clients 'gift' me with insane items, as thanks for allowing them to work with me. I have calls every month, from people wishing to work for my business, for no wage (I say no, unless it's a student doing work experience). I have weeks set aside during the year, when people join me to learn my craft, so I can pass on my knowledge to others.Ive invented revolutionary products for the industry Im in, and have been ripped off hundreds of times with my ideas and designs. I like to have a little whinge about it, but Id never do anything about it.I would gladly give all that up, and work at bunnings, to be able to spend just one day a week doing my job as a hobby, if that's what it took. I constantly doubt myself. I always struggle to accept that people enjoy, or like what I do. I dont accept praise very well... it is awkward to me.And now, I sit here wondering why the hell Im talking about it, while I could be DOING it. Off to work... :)

Small town local fame doesn't pay the bills unfortunately.   You have piqued my curiosity though.

I intend ti within the next year bring out a range of fishing DVDs the likes of which have never been seen before australia wide. Just need to find a great editor and I'm set. I've already had fishing articles and photos published so DVD is the next frontier to me

I followed my dream, I went to university, graduated the top of my year, got offers left right and centre, and ultimately lost myself in my work. And then lost my marriage. I'm starting anew and to be honest, I'd give everything for the oppourtunity to work in Nepal/ Mongolia/ Africa and help building infrastructure and schools in remote locations. I've experienced a little bit of community work in Thailand with a hill tribe and fell in love with the people and the experience. Rockercouple, you have me really intrigued now!

I'd love to be a policeman actually. I love helping people, but I can't seem to adapt to a desk job, so it seems like the perfect balance.

well, are we talking REALISTIC dream job or DREAM job, as in unattainable?   My realistic dream job is to be the owner/operator of a day spa, which I'll have franchised, which I am working towards now. I'll also still do work in the industry because I do love it so!   My actual DREAM job would be to be a private masseuse/beauty therapist to a celebrity and be toted across the globe and paid handsomely for it too...

And gave it up for the love of my best friend. After all, my people are worth more to me than any job, even the dream. Still enjoying cooking for a living (to the extent that I still do it willingly, at home!) and still true to Pereonal Commandment #3... Never work a job I don't enjoy. :)

I work with youth...mainly underpriveldged youth in this country. They drive me insane, they scare me with thier no care attitude and the safety risks that they take, I worry about how the world will be in two generations (but then they did that back in the sixties as well) As exasperating as they may be, as infuriating as they inevitably are, they are also my shining light, the future. Even if I won some astronomical amount of money I would still work with them.
