Where to learn advanced rope play - do workshops for this kind of thing exist?

January 20 2019

Hello, we're a couple in Melbourne who have discovered her love for being tied up. Unfortunately, I was never a boy scout, and hence can't do many of the things I would love to do. I've tried to learn from watching one of the very few instinctual bondage videos out there, but it's not really getting me to where I want. Are there workshops for this kind of thing?

Workshops can be found through fetlife. A profile for yourselves will open doors and get you engaged in that area. There are clubs in Melbourne

There are a plethora of great places in Melbourne that can help you learn rope goodness. I would recommend starting off with some workshops.- Passionfruit in Richmond holds workshops and education events on a regular bases- Curious Creatures also hold regular workshops that are very public/beginner accessible. Once you're feeling a bit more confident, go along to "Peer Rope" or Rope Chill type events. They are more skill-share than workshop, a great place to practice and get your confidence going. If you find that you particularly enjoy Shibari/Kinbaku, the Melbourne Rope Dojo (now called haruteru) holds regular workshops to upskill.

Obviously this should be considered a Fetish Lifestyle I suggest to research Rigger, ( the trained rope) Ropebunnie (Sub) and Munches for your area. There will be someone willing to guide you to meetings where you can learn and practice on a bunmie in absolute safety. If you are practising in the bedroom, please have shears to hand, rope is cheap vs life so you must be able to cut free any partner in 15 seconds. Always use 2 cords never single as it damages your partner skin. Always use a box knot to 'lock off' anything that might slip. Always check extremities for signs of blood flow restriction, there will be a Cold feeling and blue tinge to skin colour. Cheers Dick

She got on fetlife and found a weekly beginners course to try just before our holiday. The safety stuff was noted up top and repeated which was good. It was a great experience, and we'll definitely try some of these suggestions once we've nailed the basics enough times to get bored ;) Thanks for all the help on here guys!
