haha, which brave Wickham will out himself? No love for a Bingley? happy, friendly and wealthy? (even if you have bitchy sisters)Any Mr Collins' out there? If you enjoy closets with shelves, or dwellings with several staircases - then you might be one I've always been partial to Elizabeth Bennet myself.

...I only read books like ''Where's My Wally''. His brooding good looks, personal fortune and hidden depths have made him the quasi-epitome of generations of women 'round the world. If that's all it takes...find my Wally and I'll brood incessantly whilst sending those ladies out on a shopping spree with my platinum card. Or not. Money can't buy love or happiness but until something else comes along, it will rent one hell of a substitute! I'm out...time for a swim in my hidden depths!

Who Mr Darcy is, Qefenta1, even with your brief introduction of him in the first paragraph 😛 but I gathered that he is a dream man that is desired by some women. As a person that was raised through tough times and hardships, and became independent at a very young age, I desire to find someone who is similar to me, if not stronger and tougher 😋 which means he must be very realistic thinking and live in the reality, the now, rather than in the romantic, but unrealistic, world! I need a man who knows what to do when facing challenges instead of getting panick and lost! Sound too tough perhaps, but that's me living in the real world and reality! 😋 I am yet to find that man I desire, if he ever exists at all! 😝 - Posted from rhpmobile

Because Colin Firth is beautiful. 😍 Not sure if I find Mr Darcy as slightly tortured? Deep and mysterious maybe. All women want to save a man don't they? Besides everybody knows "it is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." 👌🏼👰🏻💲💲

Mr Darcy's not for me. I like guys with substance and complexity to them but I've done the tortured, silent type before and there's nothing romantic about it.

Does not sound like someone I could spend a lot of time with because I would sink into it and be lost. Somehow damn sexy though. Peachy

Guilty as charged! Hehehe! Why do I like guys who are like Mr Darcy? For the following reasons : - He is very intelligent; - He is never flustered, very cool, always in control, and not afraid to dance to the beat of his own drum; - He is so confident and self-assured that he has this attitude of devil may care what others think; he blazes his own trails; - He is not shallow, not easily blinded by the birds fluttering around him and trying to impress him because he is looking for a woman of substance, and he does not flirt outrageously; - He is aloof and keeps his cards close to his chest and hence, has an air of mystery... so intriguing!; - He does not fall in love easily but when he does, he falls hard and is single-minded in his pursuit; and - He is so incredibly tormented when he thought his love was unrequited because he falls in love hook, line and sinker. Gotta love a man who loves so completely and throws caution to the wind! Gotta love that passion, sincerity and ardour! - I love verbal repartees and in the beginning, Mr Darcy really had undisguised suspicion and dislike towards Elizabeth Bennett and I loved their verbal insults and comebacks. There were conflicts because both parties remained authentic and true to themselves. Plenty of opportunities for make up sex! Gotta love that! So... I love a challenge, I love men of strong character and integrity, and I like a firm smack on the butt by a dominant man when I am a bit too naughty and impetuous. Alas, men like that are a figment of the imagination.

Quoting 'Luck_Dragon' Mr Darcy's not for me. I like guys with substance and complexity to them but I've done the tortured, silent type before and there's nothing romantic about it. What about the tortured, discussive type? On how antediluvian romantic archetypes distort gender performatives and propagate the privileging the male feminine over the female masculine pretending there's complexity where there is otherwise a singular chromosome knowing it can get away with twee pseudo-sexual thrillings. O my shirt is still wet and glistening and I'm confused and sexy and talkative

What! I am beyond shocked.😱😱Jane is my hero ,she is actually a keen observer of human behaviour, and really not a romantic at all. Those Eyre girls can take that title. Persausion in my opinion is her masterpiece, written just before she died. Q

I had no idea who Mr Darcy was when I first replied. Now I'm watching, "Pride and Prejudice Zombies". That is not at all where you were coming from I'm sure but the coincidence tickled my fancy mightily considering I had no idea to who you were referring earlier. Peachy :-)

Ms Q, I'm currently teaching Persuasion in Literature! Their assessment is to write a creative piece in Austen's style and it must compliment her novel, I can't wait to see the results :) I'm not keen on the strong, aloof, silent types however. I'm always looking for the quintessential bad boy who can take me out of my comfort zones! If he is a highly intelligent, witty bad boy, I'm a goners ;) Mary xx

Quoting 'PatchworkGirl' I've never read it. Nor any other Austens. (Hangs head in shame) I read a lot when I was younger (would still but various barriers to that...one day will get back into it), and never read any Austen. I can appreciate why they're classics but that genre was never really my thing.

I think Jane is much misunderstood ..that sounds like a fascinating exercise for your students.. But her observations of the human condition ,her pricking of prentention, her flawed characters are relatable now. The film Clueless was evidence of that. 🐞Q

Because he fell in love with Elizabeth Bennett and was prepared to marry her despite her vile mother 😉 And because in my head a love a challenge. I would pick that man apart to find out what's going on inside. I agree though Q - she was a very clever insightful writer who created challenging, intelligent and complex female characters.

... what sort of lover Mr Darcy would've been in bed! Sometimes, guys who appear to be reserved can turn out to be passionate beasts when unleashed in bed! Ooh, the delectable and very intriguing mysteriousness of undressing a parcel wrapped in multiple layers! It's usually the quiet ones that amaze and fascinate me. The loud, extroverted open books offer no such element of surprise, yawn! :-P Q, I had to study Austen's works when I sat for the UK GCE "A" levels and "S" paper, but somehow, back then, I often thought that I much preferred Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy. I agree that Austen did display a very good grasp of the intricacies of human behaviour, but felt that her narrative style lacked the complexity displayed by Dickens and Hardy. It's been a long time ago since I had to study the classics and my memory is foggy but didn't Dickens write weekly instalments in the Pickwick Papers? How many writers can craft a tightly plotted novel that is a compilation of weekly instalments? I had the impression that he wasn't given the luxury of time to write too far ahead of the tight deadlines too. On another totally irrelevant note, I recently came across a few sites that tried to speculate what horoscope Mr Darcy might have been and why. Very amusing and entertaining! ;-)

Why... Because he's confident, dominant, wealthy and gorgeous! On top of that he was honest, educated and insightful and rescued without seeking praise, humble, a good big brother, had a wicked smile and could flirt with subtlety... sigh. Beautifully written and the BBC version was all the more successful for the casting of Colin Firth. Drool.

... Mr Darcy! You've been replaced by Batman! :-D Ben Affleck looks so drop-dead gorgeous! I should've watched the Batman vs Superman movie with a portable defibrillator beside me just in case I needed to resus myself when my heart got overwhelmed by too much masculine gorgeousness all at once! :-P I've never liked Ben Affleck much but he looks so much better middle-aged! Throw in the salt and pepper hair, the bad boy persona and whoa... Christian Gray pales in comparison! Batman can brand me with his insignia anyway! :-P His recent movies have been really good productions too - Argos, Gone Girl, and now this Batman vs Superman drool fest! Sorry, Mr Darcy! I need a good spanking, I know... Haha!

I could've used a defibrillator during Batman v Superman too... as an occasional jolt to keep me awake ;)
