Why is nudism listed as a sexual activity in this website?

November 21 2021

Hi all, I don't usually come in here much, but I thought I'd post this topic anyway as it's something that has been perplexing the nudists movement since it began in the late 19th century. I recently updated my profile to list my likes and activities. One of the choices for sexual likes was 'nudism'. I have been a nudist since 1990 and got into it at the age of 19. From the very beginning, I was told that nudism is not a sexual activity and a single guy's chances of finding a girlfriend at nudist places or events is virtually zero. Nudism is a family oriented activity, and there are some families who are out there about nudism in our Australian culture. Although family nudism is not as popular here as it once was from the 50's to early 90's, it is still very popular in the UK, Europe and some parts of the US. One thing that has annoyed me a lot is many people mistaking nudity for sexual availability and for those who are not involved with the nudist movement thinking that it is a green light for swinging or open sex on beaches or the front lawns at nudist venues. Just like the rest of the community, nudists are mostly sexually conservative people and about 75% of them are monogamous. They do not advocate public sex, swinging or dogging. And they certainly do not advocate public masturbation or sex with children or blood relatives. The minute anyone is caught behaving in such a manner around nudists, they are reported to the police and the Australian Naturist Federation and told to never come back. Interested to hear from the rest of you.

I totally agree! Went to Abay yesterday to have a tranquil relaxing day to enjoy the beach! The men there think you are there for them to enjoy! No wonder there are no legal nude beaches in qld! More women and couples would go if it wasn’t so seedy!

Interesting perspective and I agree with you, I don't see nudism as a sexual activity. But where else would you list it I the current structure of RHPs profiles? For me, I just interpret that list as "stuff you're into" and it is what it it is by your own definition then. On a related note, I like the way other platforms provide an alternative way of presenting information like, are you just curious or are you into everything about it. That may be an improvement on the way RHP lays out preference info.

If I go to Cobblers in Sydney with a date, and we get the balls and flaps out it's not for "pure nudity" purposes. Of course it's to flirt with one another, be naughty, have a perve at others... it's sexual. You can't deny it. Just like there should be "Dogs free to run on Bondi on X day of the month"... there should be "People are free to fuck on Cobblers Beach on X day of the month". Why not? Sex is just a free and fun as a nudist's day.

No different from people thinking that BDSM or S&M are sexual. But they are activities that sex can be incorporated into. Same as nudity I suppose.

It’s a real shame nudism isn’t more accepted in Australia. I don’t call myself a nudist but I like the idea of having the choice to be able to freely explore that in some spaces outside of the home (before kids wandering around the house naked was my normal). I found Cobblers disgusting. Didn’t appreciate being leered at the whole time I was there and would have been terrifying for the 12 year old you described. I don’t think comments that you should just accept it’s human nature that people will leer or make uninvited sexual advances if people are naked are particularly useful. It’s the same logic as saying men are dogs drawn to meat. No, culturally we can do better than that.

Nuidity can certainly be sexual but it doesn't have to be. Whilst nuidity and arousal go well together thay are not mutually exclusive. Wherever you are or whatever your doing, your behaviour should always respect the rights of others. To me, wearing a swimming costume just doesnt feel right any more. I believe we should all be able to bring the kids down to the beach and enjoy it and the body positive environment without any worry or risk our kids are going to be exposed to something they shouldn't. By the same token, we are all sexual beings monogamous, poly, conservative or otherwise. Sex is just as natural as nuidity is and I would never want to deny anyone all the fun that can be had outdoors. Just make sure there is absolutely no chance of causing offence, making others uncomfortable or prematurely broadening a kids horizons. It's really not that hard to behave.
