Wild weather

January 27 2013

With all this weather we are having here in Bris atm, guess it can hinder one's activity. What do you like to do in this type of or other type of weather? Either indoor or out.Keeping warm to keeping cool.Me? Well, I honestly love to run about like a kid out int he rain. Thought the car is getting a nice wash, I decided to run out with a scrubber and give a few little areas and better scrub. Thank god the lighting did not get me.Something I want to try - stay at the Ice Hotel, on the solid block ice bed and have some fun with the other. NO! I would not try the whole licking the ice or other to it...just in case Im stuck :)

What is happening up there now? It has been raining a little in Sydney over the last two days. I love walking in the rain.... and swimming in the ocean in the rain. I can be a bit of a kid like that.

On my side of town (Redland Bay area)This weather is crazy!! It's a down right mess.................I can hear the ocean fiercely roaring and the winds are howling...Palm Trees are swaying all over the place..Trees and power lines are down - debris is scattered everywhere across the roads. We've lost one of the local jetties.I had to bring my outdoor furniture undercover and any other loose items. My floors inside my house are moist and sticky - the house is dam - horrid really. It's tooo dangerous to drive or go anywhere.Roads and rivers are flooded and peaks are reaching now..I can't get hold of my elderly parents who live just outside of Loowood. :(I have interstate family ringing me in panic mode and that's driving me crazy.I am not going to risk driving into work tonight...so unsafe!!I've seen on the news people are out kayaking in the rising rivers...CRAZY HUH??I love the rain however this is tooooo MUCH!!SUPERFOX - Playing and staying safe in her den.Frisky - What's it like your side of Town???

We only lost power for two hours.... before all the weather started. There are parts of the coast still blacked out. Lucky for me I spent the days inside working or at home playing computer games. Kids were going stir crazy by today though (argh!)

Have thought about moving there to live and enjoy the warmth of the tropics and escape the Perth winters, but the wild weather you guys have there worries me. Last night we looked at the BOM cyclone tracking history and were trying to find a suitable town on the coast, but are none the wiser as yet. Is Port Douglas a safe bet?   Qld seems to cop a hammering from the weather. I have driven through Brisbane at night through a freaky storm and it is scary. I have been through a few cyclones in the North West so I am no stranger to them, but I need somewhere relatively safe for my family. Any thoughts?

Basically living anywhere on the coast in Queensland will be associated with some sort of risk of extreme weather events... Queensland is dominated by tropical / sub-tropical climates and these are generally prone to volatile weather events particularly in summer. Obviously the northern half of the coast is subject to direct cyclone activity....but as we're seeing now and have seen before, the impacts from ex-cyclones that become massive rain events can extend much further down south as well. Plus Queensland has tornadoes that can sometimes be very destructive....we've seen a few of these in the state recently including one that went through a suburb very near to where I live early last year.Any location has its associated risks when it comes to weather events and natural hazards...I think it's a matter of you comparing and weighing them all up, and working out which ones you're willing to live with and which you're not.

@ Luckdragon23, Thankyou for those points, I guess it is all part of the tropical climate and taking the good with the bad. We are looking around Cairns and atm and may fly over in a couple weeks time, just for a look. It is more of a lifestyle change for warmer weather all year round. We have seen some curly weather here with hail storms and tornadoes now and then, but nothing Cyclonic in Perth, only up in the North West.   @ Superfox, Sounds like a lovely area and I like the idea of a road trip   We are reasonably close to Cottesloe, Swanbourne & City Beach which is only a few mins south of Scarborough. We love the beach and the river, so we need to be near water to thrive :)
