As I was reading I was already thinking huh, nood? Not up with text speak or adjusted spelling not my thing and just the basic polite emoticons and simple lol acronyms. But seriously text speak is something I really don't deal with. I find it insane that just an extra letter or two is so painstakingly hard to manage. Sadly I am quite turned off by it and generally don't write to those that use it. Stupid I know but if you can't be bothered writing words it doesn't say much to me for holding a interesting or stimulating conversation. Apologies to those out there that are just plain freakin' lazy . Cheers

I am recalling so many tired conversations where we have to interpret I don't think we often need to ask for clarification? I'm with you - normally very intolerant of my own mistakes, but hit a certain point where I just think "Meh! If you don't understand me by now, whatevs..."

Whenever I see that brand Fcuk, a little voice in my head sounds it out. "Fer-coook.."

Quoting 'Koolgrey' Whenever I see that brand Fcuk, a little voice in my head sounds it out. "Fer-coook.." I have a T-shirt I bought at a Stand Up Comedy gig (at Harold Park Hotel years ago) by a guy named Steve Altman... It's a black shirt with a large font 'F' and a small font 'u', beneath which it reads "Funny University". It was specifically designed with a view to standing next to the types of people he'd observed wearing 'cK' T-shirts about that time. It's pretty faded and worn, but I still give it a run now and again. I don't think I'm all that old or crotchety, but I'm not a big fan of text speak.

It has the same number of letters as nude so what's the point? Norty is another one that I don't like, as well as other phonetic spelling alternatives that show a lack of cerebral flexibility. Such rigid adherence to grammatical rules may impinge on my already limited opportunities to partake in libidinous desires supplementary to my marital vows but I shall here forthwith uphold said virtuous positioning in respect to the English language. - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'Allgoodfun42'...rigid adherence to grammatical rules...in respect to the English language. - Posted from rhpmobile "...in respect of..." or "...in deference to..." Quoting 'ontology' ...I'm not a big fan of text speak. I should have said "txtspk". Though that's mainly 'cause I've not spent much time reading it or trying to use it. E'ry trade and profession 'ave their own lingo/jargon/shorthand (whether written or oral - whatevs bro), so I s'pose it's fair to 'spect it might 'appen in online comms to eh? What about face to face communications? Have many of you also heard the preface "hashtag" being slipped in before key words and phrases?

I must say that getting messages from people with typos annoys the hell out of me, but I quite often make mistakes myself, especially in the forums! I type fast on the iPad with long nails and post before I proof read. One acronym that annoys me is TYVM which stands for thank you very much - can't you just type thanks? I use FML quite often, but it has two accepted meanings and a few times people have asked if I was okay. I didn't realise the main meaning is Fuck My Life, but I use it for the slang meaning Fuck Me Loose (yes S I'm talking to you ;)) Maybe I should make up a new one - FMSW Fuck me side ways?

I reckon the initial use of plenty of such words is driven by fashion. Or "poor mans" fashion anyway. Exchanging C's with K's, U's with OO's, vice versa and so on. Take "Smorgasbord." Who says Smorgasbord anymore? It was once emblazoned on restaurant windows everywhere...probably the best known Swedish word in our country. But it's been "Buffet" for some time . What a boring english word. But its widespread use probably became dated. I pinched the Kool from Koolgreen, the cigarette brand, because I liked the colour of their racing car( but don't want to be associated with cigarettes ), but why did they use it initially? Probably to make cigarettes cool. Particularly menthols.

Just seeing some of the text acronyms here on this post alone confuse me. I read so many different things into them. I find it a bit like making up words for number plates when I'm bored. TMPFTD (that's my post for the day).

''lol'' - it sickens me to even type it here. I understand that people dig it and its' use is widespread so I just have to deal with it - but oh lord does it rankle. The occasional use of it in a message is fine but when every message you get is concluded with ''lol'' (I am trying not to blow chunks) I just... kind of... lose my shit. As far as being a grammar Nazi - again you just have to forgive poor spelling these days, so prevalent - but I can tell you that ''definately'' definitely makes me want to punch myself in the face. Oh, and I too would like to know what "SMH" means.

I have noticed that I struggle as I get older to recall the correct spelling of some more intricate words, have to google - so I am guilty of spelling errors myself more and more. I was a huge Countdown fanatic when I was a kid, was religion for me, I was very knowledgeable about popular music even as a lad. I find now I also forget who sang songs that I loved and owned on singles as a kid. Things are grim!

Had to Google that, what the actual fuck, I like when people say that, obviously abbreviated it would have gone over my head 😊 Okeydoke, well I love lol so you'll have to block your ears if you don't like it 😉 the reason I do like it is because how else do you describe that you are so amused by something, that you laugh out loud? 3 letters would otherwise be a sentence. I used to hate it too but started using it with others who did and realised it has an important place in our text language. I literally do laugh out loud, usually when I'm reading forum posts. It is a very effective and precise text 'word' lol IMO See what I did there 😎

ur just doesn't roll off the tongue for me, it comes across lazy and I read it (pronounce it in my head) 'yer' 😂😂😂 You're, you are or your, isn't that hard to type is it? Had a friend ask me if 'perce' was a new kink 😛 Typed perve but pre-empt had other ideas. Haha I just reread this sentence and it had done it again. Looks like Perce is my new kink. Funniest fails I've received were from a guy who I was texting every day, and practically all day, our messaging was pretty steamy, of course 'fuck' was commonly used, or was it? Preempt kept changing it to duck. I don't think I've ever laughed that hard, this guy would be horny and carry on sending pictures and messages, oblivious sometimes to his text fails, but I'd be crying laughing, mainly because of the frequency of it. "I'm gonna duck you in the ass with my big thick cock, balls deep" 😂😂😂
