Would you live the same life again? Over and over again?

I thought I was on Reddit. Anyways, to answer the question - yes I would live my life over again - just the once though, anything more than that would probably start to get a bit boring. As to whether I would change anything, I have mixed feelings. Traumatic stuff that happens to us as children, which is out of our control, I would probably want to change some of it. What we do as adults, where we are in control, wouldn't change any of that.

What's the point of doing it again if you can't change it?

Quoting 'Snap_Dragon' think of anything worse. If I had any say in the matter I would have chosen not to have been born in the first place. Dark yep, but there we go. Nobody ever asked to be born... No I'm not being smart, I get that.

“What's the point of doing it again if you can't change it?” I believe it’s about living a life worth living again, not changing, but I may be wrong. “ yes I would live my life over again - just the once though, anything more than that would probably start to get a bit boring.” But you wouldn’t know you are living the same life again, that’s the point. So you wouldn’t get bored. But then again, whose to say we are not already living it? Maybe Deja-vu has some substance? “Can’t think of anything worse. If I had any say in the matter I would have chosen not to have been born in the first place. Dark yep, but there we go.” I can understand that. I guess that’s why we are not immortal? We get a taste of what it’s like to be alive, then we are out of stage, back to what we were before we were born. - Posted from rhpmobile

What a beautiful question, thanks for posting such a thought provoking thread. Over the last thirty-five odd years, I've countless times said to people that I don't regret a single thing I've done or said, because that would be to question my sanity, and I'm not insane, to my knowledge. Eccentric, yes, different, yes, but Not insane. .. Born in any earlier time, I would not have survived. And during the course of my fifty years, I've had more than my fair share of crap foisted upon me to deal with. However, as I also say to people, if I had not been forged through those experiences, I would doubtless be a different person, perhaps one I didn't like. .. To live this life again and again, akin to some awful Groundhog Day, with no memory to foresee and change, alter, improve upon the original, places the real pressure of life , lived but once, upon us. Would I survive the pain again, the long days and longer nights? I'm not sure. Sometimes life hangs by just a thread. People tell me all the time, they couldn't live my life, so how might I once more. We have children, they are developing into young people who care about others, so perhaps that makes it worthwhile. I know when I die, I have had a life where I put others first, I did the "right" thing, the caring thing, the thing of most positive impact, makes me an annoying fucker sometimes, but I wouldn't change that. So, another reason to say yes. .. And I know, I will wake tomorrow, which, at this time, is very much today, and I'll have to face it all again, such is my mind, such is my body. Trapped, yet I do. Besides, I'm one half of a partnership, with my wonderful wife, the delightful Mrs urn. . .. There are indeed those things beyond our control, other people's hands on our lives, ill health or disability, that is genetic, bad luck, and not of our own misadventure or doing. Understanding life, is crucial to living a life worth living again. .. So, as I do when offering my opinion, worth but a cent, I share it's story. This one cent came in the change to a parent, it was quickly spent, and Travelled without thought. But one day, in my change, I saw it, and I knew it was that same one cent, so I put it in the box, with my other change from years ago, and it sits there to this day, nothing special, but I know where it is. .. Mr. urn. .

Maybe Deja-vu has some substance? Oh, I didn't realize that bit. I change my mind then - what would be the point of that? A rather pointless existence.

If the question is more about whether I would go through all the pain and heartbreak again just to experience the good moments of connection again as well, then I would. - Posted from rhpmobile

What a pointless exercise that is. If knew what you were doing and you could make one change each time that would make some of our choices interesting next time around. I would make small changes, not large wholesale ones. Even though my marriage ended in divorce I would still do it again, maybe just make some better decisions lol

I would make small changes, not large wholesale ones. Even though my marriage ended in divorce I would still do it again, maybe just make some better decisions lol There was an excellent short story I read many moons ago by possibly Stephen King (not sure), concerning trips back in to the dinosaur era for rich people in the future. They could visit a Jurassic-style era but they had to walk on elevated pathways so as not to touch anything, they could shoot any dinosaur that was just about to die but were not to touch the rest. Of course one cheeky little fucker gets a little carried away and shoots a small dinosaur-thingy. They port back to the future only to find that everyone is speaking a different language, dressing differently. The point being that small changes have long-lasting implications. But then again, it was only a story.

I am not trying to make a statement here but I have to correct you.The example you mention is not to be interpreted in isolation as it is related to his aesthetics and ethics. Would you like to be immortal even if you KNEW your life is to be repeated, in every detail, perpetually? In his aesthetics he states - "Nothing is beautiful, only man" ... and "nothing is ugly but the degenerate man." "Man beliefs that the world itself is filled with beauty - he forgets that it is he who has created it" ( Birth of Tragedy). The only thing we have is our vision of the world. Only art, “great possibiliser of life”, the great “seducterss to life”, gives us an illusion of everything being anew. The point of the story is that if you would to feel despair at that thought, you probably are not happy with your life. The idea of living one’s life in such a way that one wants it again and again, helps us identify what’s important and significant for us. (Ms)

I am familiar with the space time continuum ripple effect of small changes in history magnifying further down the track. I don't know if i would change things to end it sooner or try different things to save it but it is an interesting hypothetical for my brain to overload over lol 😂😂 - Posted from rhpmobile

I would. It hasn't been easy. But nothing worthwhile is Ive made my mistakes. Ive made my luck. Had my ups and downs, along with disappointments. But i think i'm a good person and better for life's experiences. So yeah, i'd go again.....

If I can't remember each time, then it doesn't matter - it might be the first or it might be the zillionth go around. If I can remember it but not change it, definitely no, what is the point - knowing what comes next? "Hey kids, look, there's big ben" If I can make tweaks, then I'm all for it - so many decisions here or there that I would change. If only I could run them all in parallel and find which one I liked most.

Thank you for your beautiful comment, I was actually expecting someone to do this. Nietzsche was a strange obsession of mine when I was in uni, which was almost 22 years ago. And I did not read much from him since then, so I knew my perception of his writings are flawed at the moment. Yes, you are right. I remember now how I used to see his mindset. So thank you for that. - Posted from rhpmobile

SatyrMy pleasure. Nietzsche has resonated with me as well; however, I would not advise you to follow his advice regarding women. (Ms)

Yeah, I did enjoy some of his writings but he came across as extremely sexist amongst other things. And then there is this argument about Nazis being inspired by his ideas... - Posted from rhpmobile

His sister associated his writings with the Nazi movement. He abandoned philosophy in favour of gardening and rushed to the aid of a horse that was being whipped by its master. It seems that contrary to popular belief he was a gentle man. He showed us how ridiculous it is what we often do, put so much effort to make something subjective appear measurable. Nevertheless, he was deeply human, just as the rest of us. When I said his advice regarding women I meant his life - Either he died a virgin or from syphilis, he contracted at a brothel while still in college ... probably why he feared women and never experienced real intimacy. Anyhow, not a way to leave this place. (Ms)
