Centara Grand Resort Hua Hin and a 3 bedroom Thai Villa, with pool, on the gardens of Davis Hotel Bangkok. For local get aways, a weekend in Daylesford/ Hepburn Springs and also in Maldon, is something we enjoy regularly. - Posted from rhpmobile

DG.. funny you mention Centara Grand Resort.. I have a girlfriend who works in reception and it's one of my favorites also. That's if it's the same one, I know there's several Centara Resorts in Thailand.. Ironically, we meet at another resort in Kata where she was working at the time. I'll never forget the night she took me down the beach where the local Thai's gathered for some type of festival.. Dressed in traditional gear they lit up hundreds of floating Lilly's with a candle in the middle . Then they sent up just as many kites with the flame inside.. Probally the most beautiful thing I've ever seen... Spectacular...

Though no media except music. No people except a companion and room service when required. The bush comes to mind. 5* Glamping in the Karajini or the Kimberley or on Cocos/Christmas Islands. Fresh air and the earth beneath bare feet. Of course I like resorts however they're not my petfect get away. A dream would be to the wilderness in Alaska held up in a cabin, where I could write. - Posted from rhpmobile

First paid fly fishing articles I ever wrote were after a couple of weeks stay on the island....a few wahoo, several yellowfin tuna and a marlin that taught me once again the meaning of the word humility. It was enough to pay for the trip and have to admit...the service at the Princess was enough to make me forget how humiliated I was when that bloody marlin blew up my fly rod! Best..... CM

It was the Centara in Hua Hin, 3 hours south of Bangkok. A really nice old (original ) colonial style hotel, set in huge manicured gardens and right on the beach. Not sure if it qualifies as a resort - but did have 3 swimming pools. - Posted from rhpmobile

...I like the camping in a wooden cabin in the snow and mountains thing. I did that once, for a week. Having grown up and lived in the warm parts of Australia, it certainly feels exotic to tramp through waist deep snow, put my beers OUTSIDE to cool them down, and to swim in a hot water spring...while the snow falls gently around me. Quite surreal. I like that. I'll do it again.

Not fussed where it is, and Australian beaches are superior to any I have been to overseas. It doesn't have to be warm, it doesn't have to be fancy accomodation, and I don't even need company (nods head at Meander's post). What I do need is a long beach to walk on (have been known to walk 15-20km round trip) and crashing waves.

Rockingham lol I'm not kidding. I have a guy I haven't been able to see, the distance given my current situation, has prevented me from getting to him. That is going to happen next week. Even if we have to meet halfway and get busy in the car, I have to see him, it's driving me crazy 😕

A fly rod to catch a Marlin ey. Must admit fishing of the Abrollas is fun but not with a fly rod...... The joys of deep sea. Oh how I miss that excitment tho not the flipping bruises. Never tries fly with a fly rod. Have caught the odd trout tho in the Blackwood. I think it was trout. A fish anyway :-p My years in the Pilbara taught me how to drink beer but not to fish like the pros. - Posted from rhpmobile

Once in Hamner Springs (I thunk thats how you spell it) . Hot pools and the snow falling. A true delight. The springs at Mataranka are beautiful too. I love Australia. We have just as much to offer as out overseas destinations. Personally I prefer to spend my $$ on our economy supporting local jobs. :-) Tho oneday a white Christmas to satisfy that childhood fantasy. Yea Yeah I know its all sludge lol - Posted from rhpmobile

Kruger National Park in South Africa. Preferably on my own, so there's no-one to complain when I stop at a waterhole for several hours just to get that perfect photo lol Although it's been many years since I was last there, it's still my heaven on earth. Currently planning a trip for next year, and I'm just a little bit excited :)

We are about to head to Cancun Mexico for the second time we are staying at desire RM it's dear but the price includes drink food and entertainment. The resort is adults only with a nude pool and a rooftop spa open at night with a bar and beds for sex.

What has the world come to? I agree Meander - ''hey, look at me, I'm loaded". How very James Bond! And here's me - I trekked in my car down to Adelaide last month for a holiday, camped all the way, one night at a place called Lake Hart about a hundred metres from the railway line - in the cold, with a fire a roaring, listening to ABC Nightlife, I toasted passing trains and got toots of their horn in response. One of the most memorable nights of my life, and yet so simple. I've travelled overseas myself, yet this trumped most experiences I've had in exotic locales. Being of a normal level of wealth has its' advantages too.

I like to stick to our beautiful Aussie coastline with a particular fondness for hiring whole houses with spas, ocean views and a 2 minute walk to the beach for the 2 of us. We get together pretty much everything we need before leaving Perth to get away from as much human contact as possible with the sound of waves, beautiful views... and minimal fuss. The heated pool at our new, current favourite is heavenly... Aussie Peachy, born and bred...

...they're a rather distinctive looking species and with fly rods coming in various ''weights'' for very small fish right through to the beasties of the sea, it's quite a rush! They even do that over Exmouth...have a look? http://www.exmouthflyfishing.com.au/blog/?page_id=736 The bald fellow in the first picture there is Jono Shales, nice guy and one hell of a fly fisher!

Ok for a couple of days but for me they get boring and would prefer to get out amongst it. I like unpredictable situations, with interesting people, art, comedy and music so would love to go to Burning Man or Glastonbury festivals. But with a glamping option and not have to use a port-a-loo 😄 Closer to home am going to Woodford Folk Festival this year and can't wait. It looks amazing. Dark Mofo in Tassie also looks cool it's on now till next week. They do a nude Winter Solstice swim to close the festival. Chilly! - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'Meander' Or: How to point out I'm cashed up without sounding like I'm bragging. The term ''cashed up'' refers to a style of investing and not how much money may or may not be there. You could have $5000 in a money market account and be cashed up! I got my ass kicked in the 2011 market crash particularly in a holding in executive shares that I could not have sold as the company controlled them. At present, the equities markets and even property are to me a worry so I'll be happy with a lower and more predictable return that I can achieve in cash and/or trading on the FOREX. And yes, I have have more than $5000....I've $5121 or so, depending on the daily interest and global money markets!

You don't have to explain yourself to anyone or cash into snide comments either. I really do not see an issue with people treating themselves every now and again doing things they want to do. If one works hard, then why not? Jealousy comes to my mind, when people have the need to make comments that are not really necessary. Have fun on your getaway. Ms Foxy

I'm heading back to the Greek Islands to see more islands. ☀️🌊 I haven't been to Bermuda but I have been to a few of the Caribbean islands. It would be great to get a group of friends and a yacht and cruise the Caribbean. But arranging a time when everyone is "cashed up" And has the time is Asking the impossible. We usually do shorter group trips. Vanuatu, Fiji and Hamilton Island. I'm sure it will become impossible when people starting having kids.

You are the one who mentioned "cashed up" in your topic post. So now I am confused as to how your investment/s relates to your holiday.

Quoting 'xxticklishxx' You are the one who mentioned "cashed up" in your topic post. So now I am confused as to how your investment/s relates to your holiday. ...it won't be necessary to sell out of equities (they could be down in value or actually below purchase price) or take out some sort of loan if it were held in property. Simple, I can just get what I need when I need and at par value...thus mitigating the possible downside of other types of investments. Even just converting from the $AU to the $US can be at the least quite painful. Currently the $BMD is pegged at 1:1 with the $US. Nothing heinous at all, a simple investment term and as I worked in that field for many years, still use terms for some types/styles of investing that could have several meanings and certainly so to others. Best.... CM

We stayed at The Cabanas. However we spent time at The Lost World and Cascades. It a huge, beautiful detailed place! We drove there from Johannesburg, with security escorts (of course) in front and behinds us. I loved the country side scenery on that drive. Ms Foxy

I'm looking forward to going back to Hawaii and getting over to an island other than Oahu for a while - I'd like to charter a yacht some time and go cruising around the Bahamas area - but I really enjoy the feel of Hawaii, and it's not much effort to be relaxing. Give me fresh Hawaiian poke' and I'm happy. Currently listening to the thunder and watching the storms roll in through the mountains after a stinking hot day here in northern Italy. I enjoy the actual "getting there" of my travel, so the flights I can take to get to the destination are a factor too.

It wasn't me and don't have a clue regarding your post as I never saw it. I generally like your comments and rarely find offense albeit we all have our bad days...some more than others unfortunately. As for where to go with $5...I'd head straight to Macca's and grab a couple goodies off the ''loose change'' menu but then again, I'm a sucker for junk food. Best..... CM

The drive from JHB to Sun City can be and usually is, very dangerous. We usually arranged to be flown in via helicopter and occasionally a small plane, as there was an airstrip just outside of the resort. If by helicopter, there was a landing pad in gardens of main hotel. - Posted from rhpmobile

Sounds like sour grapes if you ask me.. 👎 Jay.. Jay Bond... Sour grapes implies that I'm jealous. Am I jealous of his having been overseas? No, I've been overseas myself many times. Am I jealous of his wealth? No, I have enough and that is enough for me. There are a lot of people out there (obviously including myself) that don't like people bragging about how wealthy they are, is all.

I'm not interested in travelling to any of the Asian countries, and places like Hawaii, Bermuda, Fiji etc. also hold no appeal for me. As soon as I have the $ I'll be heading to Europe. Particularly keen to see some of Croatia given my heritage on my dad's side. One day I'd also like to get to Costa Rica, and South Africa.

It's not about location, it's about who I'm sharing it with. I love visiting Perth, for obvious reasons. I recently had a wonderful weekend away in Adelaide with an amazing guy. A recent weekend in Melbourne was sensational with some RHP friends. I'm currently planning my first o/s trip with my daughter. Getaways for me are awesome if they involve stress-free time with people who are ok with the fact that I'm much more a "relax and refresh" traveller than an action-packed one. Give me somewhere comfy to sit with a book, someone to share a wander and a chat with, and I'm a happy camper. Or hoteler.

I agree Patchwork girl, it's about people we travel with, but also we meet on our journeys, never about money. I could enjoy good company irrelevant of where I am, but if we are talking about perfect getaway I must say Turquoise waters of Adriatic, with little harbors while sailing along Croatian islands, and secret coves swathed in pines and cypress trees. Water so translucent you can see shoals of fish, the smell of pine trees, sounds of cicadas and warm summer nights without flies. We like going to not known places and investigating. Always discovering knew things. Having time for ourselves but also experiencing the life the way locals do. I do not see the point of traveling without experiencing that side, and also along the way make friends. Luck Dragon do not waste your time, Croatia is full of delightful surprises. (Ms)

The germ of a holiday plan started in my mind last week. They usually start this way, so I'm paying attention to it and nourishing it. Unexpected expenses and acts of god have made it a bit of a costly start to this year...so it's occurred to me to do that ride-a-motorbike-around-the-country road trip later in the year...rather than travelling abroad again. I have all the essentials already, so all it requires is the paid time off. I'm thinking to ride my R1 from Perth, around the top end, to Cairns...visit mum and maybe catch my sister and brother if I'm lucky, and a few old friends on the way down Queensland...before returning home around the bottom of the country.Alternatively, I could leave my motorbike at mums in Cairns and fly home to Perth...but I would kinda like my bike back. From experience, I know that 4 weeks is not enough to make it a casual circumnavigation...that would be rushing it...and I've regretted that before. You see the forest, but not the trees.I think, about 7 weeks off work would be ideal. I'll pack my little tent and sleeping bag this time.
