fads... with permanent consequences

May 16 2014

Remember when everyone got a tramp stamp... Most girls around my age were 18ish around the time tramp stamps were a fad and i know plenty of women who now regret the decision. Then emo came in and i was at uni so i met heaps of people who got lots of tattoos and probably now wish they hadn't devoted themselves to something that no one much thinks is the height of fashion anymore. And most recently this massive trend towards getting lobe stretchers. I'm seeing an alarming number of high school girls already up to 20 and 50 cent piece sizes. Now the body mod crowd just isn't that big and will always be a niche group. Do these kids even know that stretchers are permanent? What do you think... Will it stay in and become like jeans (sure the fit changes from season to season, but its still jeans right?). Or will we have another generation of people a testament to fad-ism. At least you could take happy pants off... Also... less permanent, buts whats with all the dorky bearded blokes everywhere...? Is it now fashionable to look like a dweeb?

the older 2 have tattoos. My eldest booked in to have his done as soon as he turned 18, he now has 4. My second son who is now 18 just got his first tattoo and he has the lobe stretchers as does his girlfriend. He also has the beard thing going on. They have both got other piercings as well such as ears, noses, belly buttons, etc. I have seen their ears blow out and end up a disgusting mess, his friend has had to get them surgically sewn back together because he ripped the ear lobe into 2 dangly bits, yuk! There is no telling them though.

No faddist me. Mark up a few scars, NO tattoos and 1 set of earring holes done the ice and needle way. I had a second set done the same way but let them close up. And an ill-fated upper ear piercing scar where the woman managed to pierce the fold as well. :-( Hubbie has no tats, one child has no tats but the other child makes up for them LOL. Nah, not that many really. The ear hole thing, I like the look of the smaller ones that you can dangle jewellery through, but the bigger ones, I can only see becoming a problem at some time in life! . Not a new fad so much maube, it reminds me a bit of the natives who wear the weights to stretch the length of their ear lobes. . Google tells me, "The oldest known preserved human body from 3300BC had stretched earlobes as well as tattoos."

I actually saw a large lobe stretcher on FB wall today;on the side of a mans cheek and he had his tongue split and it was poking through the large lobe stretcher. Only a mother would love it. I hate to see him eat.... If that's the new fad, I would rather eat dog food! I don't mind little stretchers in the ear lobe....I did say LITTLE! I kinda like that look, kinda surfie cross alternative with a few tatts. I'm sure what the name it is, what people call that look?? Smokin Hwat?? Foxy

Grosses me out, as do face piercings...a small nose piercing I think generally looks ok it's more the ones through cheeks, bridge of the nose that kind of thing. I have only had 2nd holes in my lobes and one helix which I don't wear very often anymore. I will get a couple of tats eventually, once the kids stop costing me so much money :)

I can clearly remember a time back in high school in manual arts class. When the teacher asked all students to remove all ear rings in his class for safety. After numerous times of asking one particular student to remove his ear ring. The teacher walked up and ripped it clean out. Stating that it would not have got cought in his finger if he obeyed class rules on safety. My current work place has an accross the board safety rule of no jewelry or visable tattoos to be worn in site. Even watches must be removed prior to the use of any machinery. Now i know allot of people will say they have the wright to wear what they want and its their lifes and body but isnt it the companys legal wright to premote its image and safety. Seen some very burtal injuries in my time.
