Dude.... Babe grrrrrrr...

October 18 2012

Just read a post where one guy called the other guy ' dude'OK ' I know its just a name but I find this term offensive ' when I hear it' it immediately puts me in defensive mood. I interpret this term as talking down to the person its aimed at.. In the real world ' I only ever heard it from a few ppl and only once was I called 'dude' . That ended up with a apology once I asked the guy what he meant by that.. he didnt know... Babe, I notice lately quite a few ladies on here say they hate being called 'babe' . I used this term many years ago when the it was not common , but now I avoid it like the plague.. Why ? because every man and his dog use it more so ' for their own ego than the girls use it on. Its common , and I feel the girls are just getting jack of it..OK thats my gripe for the day... anyone care to comment ?

I guess it really depends where you are coming from. I don't think of 'dude' as offensive. More as an attempt at familiarity. I don't see how it can be used intentionally offensively but to each their own.In the end no one can offend you. You choose whether or not to be offended. And each individual can only do so much to guess what you might be offended by. I say chill out du... um, mate, ahh SIR!

Remember that song? "Don't call me dude"   I don't like being called dude either, even less by my daughter. Even being called 'mate' sometimes erks me as I find it insincere, especially when someone who knows your name greets you with "Mate".   There is only one real dude, from The Big Lebowski   "The Dude" ("or His Dudeness, or Duder, or, you know, El Duderino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing")

''The Big Lebowski",I loved that film,if you haven't seen it Jay you should,it's absolutely hilarious. It's funny how some words affect us,my pet hates are hun and babe, but then again it does depend who is using those words and in what context. One of the most complimentary things we can do is make an effort to remember someones name,it is very engaging . Conmen and used car salesmen have understood this for yearsx R

I had an American partner who called everyone dude, including me sometimes. (Dude looks like a lady?) I catch myself doing it now, no harm intended! I dislike sweetheart and honey as well. Or hun. Don't mind darling as much. Babe or baby I only like when I know someone. All ermails that I get with Hi hun or Hey babe in the title are an instant no.

Dude is quite acceptable terminology - its like the Australian version of Mate - same as Bro - its a friendly endearment   I hate being called "Love/Luv "- this appears to be an Australian saying and it drives me crazy especially if a woman says it to me.   Same on here when a guy writes to me and calls me Babe...Im no - ones Babe...   but Id like to be........   but that ones reserved for that special someone....   On the other hand..been called plenty of other names...and they are way too nasty to mention here !!!

Wisdom is knowing what is worth getting upset or annoyed about and to what to let slide past without a fuss, asin the dude gripe it's the recipient thats responsible for anothers bogan vocabulary, or lack of understanding. It's understanding that the person saying it has less care, or education as youve notiiced the error, either arrogant or ignorant to the fact and neither are your problem unless you choose to let it. If he is arrogant then he has insecurities to act towards you in such a manner, youve alreadt got him where you want him,, doing the talking and removing all doubt that he is arrogant, if it's the other then maybe English grammer wasn't a strong subject of his..... Either way it'sone or the other, but the dude calling every one dude..I personally feel it's not unlike words such as mate bro or buddy," hey dude how hot were those sexy ladies on RHP chat room tonight., hahaha dude you were chatting to the tranny half the time and thinking he was a she.. hahaha dude you should of seen the look on your face when you realised your dream date was a dude,, hahah yeah that was one hot dudette Not hahaha...Seriously though dude the ladies were sooo hot had a gread day... Even the german Tranny has a good giggle... German?? How do you know that?? hahaha Dude he was the only one at the thesausage sizzle with a frankfurt....The word FCUK yes it's spelt incorrect incase someone may find it offensive... moving right along, the Fbomb can be expressed in so so many different ways, some purposely offensive, other times jokeingly so on so forth.. You get my drift here dude and dudettes? t's not what you say it's how you say it that matters. I have a cousin that calls his mates champ and they all whine about it to me, I laaugh it off when it happens to me with no worries champo' or chump., play dumb to the dumb as it' easier for you to understand them rather than try get them to understand you, if they could they would likely not be the way they are... :)

I am talking to someone.. IF they display a name tag, I ALWAYS use it.. and often get looked at like a criminal for it.. So - babe, love, chick, lady, girl, woman, split arse, gash, bunny, hunnii, grommet, dude, mate, pal, fella, dickhead... WTF?   I dont mean it in derogetory terms EVER.. now, I tell you all what I am going to do..   From this day on.. I intend to address/refer to EVERYONE I speak with, male, female AND the unknowns, as...... (drumroll.....)   "Grink"   Fck everyone and their sensibilities... THEY can decide if I am insulting or honouring them .. and they can act accordingly. Cool eh??!! caveman.

being called babe is harmless. I call guys I know dude from time to time, but generally in a "duuuuuuuude what were you thinking!?" kind of way.   A new one which is rife in my age bracket is dollface or doll for short. not sure where it originated but I'm guilty of using that one too.   I think if someone calls you a pet name then they must like you enough to give you access to their affectionate names for friends.   Or they forgot your name.

When ladies with Mediterranean accents call me 'darling'. You know, the really flamboyant, over the top, gold earings type?! There was a lady working at a cafeteria I used to frequent that said it, and it always made me smile!I can't wait until I'm old enough to get away with calling ladies "my sweet" or "love" in a Michael Cane-esque cockney voice. At the moment it sounds creepy, but one day it's gonna be endearing! Well, no, it'll probably still be creepy, but I just won't care enough to let that stop me.

Its only a sting if you allow it be... it was a point of view, thats all..Anyway, Im all for the second childhood ... Never been the one to sit back and grow old gracefully. I,m still the most active of all my friends , always on the go and looking for my next adventure... fashionable, look after my body and health , and do date younger girls if there's good chemistry going...But I like to think I know my limitations. Which ever way you want to look at it, there will always be generation gaps . If I used some of the sayings we had when we were young' the younger generation would laugh , just as we think some of their sayings are weird... Where we come from is what we are ... We can act different, but our maturity allows us to make better choices...

Now, who calls someone good looking the don't know a "babe" behind there back?, maybe to their friend... Always a time and place people.

It sometimes depends on who it's coming from and the context. Someone I used to know would always refer to me as "Hun" in her texts, and knowing her character it was condescending and I didn't like it. Without knowing someone I think it's fair etiquette to not use these references as it comes across as control and with no personal value since it would've most likely been used on everyone they have come across.

Reading through all the posts when i suddenly thought how silly this is. I started out thinking no one will take much notice of my gripe, expecting a few difference of opinion and fade away into oblivion. But what is obvious is that there are 2 schools of thought. You,re either a user of ' dude ' or not. You either love it or loathe it. So no real point in getting ur knickers in a knot either way. Personally, i can live without it, but l now know there are those who would rather cut thier right arm off then lose it.. Its a free world, do or say as you please. If you can convince me its better than the old tried and true ' mate ' good luck. Luv ya Peachy, x

Wasn't that a song? But seriously as an American Brit I can tell you that dude is overused (at least in California). It's pretty hard to attribute any sentiment without some kind of context but normally it would be a harmless greeting. I'm kinda surprised you guys use it over here?On the other hand the local equivalent is mate. That again depends on the context to a large extent. An immigration office called me mate on the way in on an immigration visa for the first time, friendly banter. I have seen other blokes calling somebody mate prior to taking a swing at them.Mate, dude? Harmless. But baby does seem a bit demeaning in anything other than a one-on-one bedroom situation...

not offended or feel disrespected in the least. To me they are terms of endearment - of course it also comes down to the intent and inflection of tone etc.My kids rarely call me Mum and I rarely call them by name anymore, unless they are in trouble, then it's their first, middle and last name!We call each other, our friends and anyone else we like: gorgeous, lovely lady, kitten, honey, buddy, dude, sweetness, kitty kat, beautiful girl etcWith men, that I meet, of course I will use their name - We need to get to know each other, be on the same wave length and "connect" - but the type of men I meet will be witty, dry, smart arses where we have great banter and they wouldn't be offended if I called them dude or buddy in an exchange of "fun conversation" in the first place.

Well, he was black, and the next thing i kon, the Drill instructor is pulling us apart, and asks what it is all about. the jerk immediately blurts out 'HE CALLED ME BOY!' grow up.I was immediately chastised for such a horrible violation of someones civil rights 'Dont you EVER call him boy!'.I was from the backwoods of Pennsylvania, and until I joined the Army, the only black people I saw were the ones burning down America on TV. Whenever we talked to anyone (man talk),everyone used the term boy, it was just a figure of speech. It all boils down to personal stuff, ethnic, etc.In america, you cant say the 'N' work, but even the media will use honky, redneck, white trash, cracker etc. I really dont care what people call me (gun toting right wing extremist I ALWAYS get), but in the end, words are words. And justjuice: I wouldnt get too worked up over the 'baby' thing. I always thought when a guy said that to a woman, it was a term on endearment. I guess when your hubby uses it as opposed to somene else. not an ego boost for me.but again, i guess it is all about the way you were raised, and everyone is different. and 'Dude' is not an 'American' thing, it is a CALIFORNIA thing, and we dont consider them part of the states.we call it the land of fruits and nuts. How many MASS MURDERERS came from California? anyone ever heard of CHARLES MANSON? helter skelter is coming down, baby.....

AUTOMATIC stereotype. Not that I do really, but it is there to provoke a response, mostly negative. If I used 'hardstudmuffin', or 'buffbeachman'. i would get way more responses.so much for my social experiment.

Its a word used in ignorance only. If you choose to be offended by someone calling you dude on a chat forum then you need to swallow some concrete. If someone calls you dude to your face I am sure there is malice intended.

On_Safari started me thinking about the correct name for animal penis' (clearly I have had too much time on my hands today) I remembered thinking that a whales penis is a dork and the blue whale has the largest penis, but a quick Google search also gave me this gem.....pretty impressive really. The largest penis in the animal kingdom is that of the blue whale. Its average length is 11 feet (3.35 m)! The largest testicles in the world are those of the northern right whale (Eubalaena glacialis), which has a pair of gonads that can weigh up to 2,200 lbs (997.902 kg). The reason why they evolved such enormous testicles is caused by the fact that each whale's sperm competes with that of other whales. When the female whale comes into heat she immediately gets mobbed by about 30 passionate males who all make love to her (or at least try this). Each whale attempts to wash out the sperm of the competitor with their own. The more sperm they produce, the biggest the chance they will succeed. The largest vagina is that of the female blue whale, which is not surprising considering the size her lover's penis. Her vulva consists of a long groove along her underside and normally has a length of 6 to 8 feet (1.82 m to 2.44 m). It expands when intercourse occurs.

Come on, in todays times of disrespect, lewd comments and the like I dont think Dude is that offensive in fact i find it quite accepting. The name that gets up my nose is when people (and theres quite a few that do) call me Kuntface, yes... thats correct, Kuntface, I dont know whether these people are just having a joke with me or whether they really are offended by my cleft pallet ? oh well... go figure

Ive been called all kinds of stuff, dude is the least offensive :-) and the only name that bothers me is Danny, I'm Daniel so lots of people think Danny is perfectly ok, including strangers. Yes it's illogical, stupid and unreasonable but I despise being called Danny. It really puts my nose out of joint, Weird huh!

That old Tassie favourite COCK? Yep its true, people say g'day cock, how ya doing cock? And nope, they don't care whether you're a man or a woman. Its more common in the north and north-west of Tassie. Personally, I prefer if you to use my name if you know it. If you are sending me a message, you can call me Wild in preference to hun or babe. Hun always makes me think of Attila.

Seriously Dude like it matters!   Dude, babe, hun, mate, whatever you say its only meant to be "cool".   The word I can't stand and had a VERY different meaning when I was younger is "DOG".   Seriuosly the next young "bloke" to call me that will find out what it's like to be bit by one. no lol I just want to turn them upside down and drop them very firmly on there bloody head!   Anyway "peeps" enjoy ya weekend
