Quote of the Moment-Inspirational or Otherwise

June 10 2017

We haven't had a thread on quotes for aaages and I have a continual urge to share the ones I come across regularly, so a new thread for quotes for anyone who cares to share theirs with me. Be it inspirational, momentary, daily... I'll start... "I was born with my heart on my sleeve, a fire in my soul, and a mouth I can't control." I'll bet you never guessed! Peachy, all for keeping it good natured, of course!

The thing to do, it seems to me, is to prepare yourself so you can be a rainbow in somebody else's cloud. Somebody who may not look like you. May not call God the same name you call God - if they call God at all. I may not dance your dances or speak your language. But be a blessing to somebody. That's what I think. Maya Angelou

I think Winnie the Pooh might be onto something.... there are those times a piece of fluff in an ear could come in quite handy...... lol "Piglet: Pooh! Haven't you been listening to what Rabbit's been saying? Winnie the Pooh: I listened, but then I had a small piece of fluff in my ear. Could you say it again, please, Rabbit? Rabbit: Well, where should I start from? Winnie the Pooh: Well, from the moment the fluff got in my ear. Rabbit: Well, when was that? Winnie the Pooh: I don't know. I couldn't hear properly. Thanks Nia_Rose, love my music, PeachyPearL Don’t take anything personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. "People wonder why I give so many compliments out to strangers. I'm not being fake & I'm not looking for people to like me. But if I pass someone & I like something, I say it. 'Love those shoes!' or 'Great hair!' or 'Wow your eyes are beautiful!'... why? Because life is hard & this world can be a shitty place... & people are mean. You never know how much those few words mean to someone, you never know what hell they may be going through; & when you put positivity out there in the universe YOU yourself become a happier person. It's hard to be nice & be miserable yourself. It'll reflect from the outside in... I'm telling you - random compliment giving will change your life; & maybe someone else's too." -Jordan Sarah Weatherhead

The world is filled with people who, no matter what you do, no matter what you try, will simply not like you. But the world is also filled with those who will love you fiercely. The ones who love you they are Your People. Don’t waste your finite time and heart trying to convince the people who aren’t your people that you have value. They will miss it completely. They won’t buy what you are selling. Don’t try to convince them to walk your path with you because you will only waste your time and your emotional good health. You are not for them and they are not for you. You are not their cup of tea and they are not yours. Politely wave them along and you move away as well. Seek to share your path with those who recognize and appreciate your gifts, who you are. Be who you are. You are not everyone’s cup of tea and that is OK.

A Buddhist Prayer of Forgiveness If I have harmed any one in any way, either knowingly or unknowingly through my own confusions, I ask their forgiveness. If any one has harmed me in any way, either knowingly or unknowingly through their own confusions, I forgive them. And if there is a situation I am not yet ready to forgive, I forgive myself for that. For all the ways that I harm myself, negate, doubt, belittle myself, judge or be unkind to myself, through my own confusions, I forgive myself.

The bird in the Cage Once upon a time, there was a bird. He was adorned with two perfect wings and with glossy, colorful, marvelous feathers. One day, a woman saw this bird and fell in love with him. She invited the bird to fly with her, and the two travelled across the sky in perfect harmony. She admired and venerated and celebrated that bird. But then she thought: He might want to visit far-off mountains! And she was afraid, afraid that she would never feel the same way about any other bird. And she thought: “I’m going to set a trap. The next time the bird appears, he will never leave again.” The bird, who was also in love, returned the following day, fell into the trap and was put in a cage. She looked at the bird every day. There he was, the object of her passion, and she showed him to her friends, who said: “Now you have everything you could possibly want.” However, a strange transformation began to take place: now that she had the bird and no longer needed to woo him, she began to lose interest. The bird, unable to fly and express the true meaning of his life, began to waste away and his feathers to lose their gloss; he grew ugly; and the woman no longer paid him any attention, except by feeding him and cleaning out his cage. One day, the bird died. The woman felt terribly sad and spent all her time thinking about him. But she did not remember the cage, she thought only of the day when she had seen him for the first time, flying contentedly amongst the clouds. If she had looked more deeply into herself, she would have realized that what had thrilled her about the bird was his freedom, the energy of his wings in motion, not his physical body. Without the bird, her life too lost all meaning, and Death came knocking at her door. “Why have you come?” she asked Death. “So that you can fly once more with him across the sky,” Death replied. “If you had allowed him to come and go, you would have loved and admired him ever more; alas, you now need me in order to find him again.” Ms Foxy

Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it -- I own everything about me: my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they be to others or myself. I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears. I own my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes. Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. By so doing, I can love me and be friendly with all my parts. I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other aspects that I do not know -- but as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles and ways to find out more about me. However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically me. If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought, and felt turn out to be unfitting, I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest, and invent something new for that which I discarded. I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive, and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me. I own me, and therefore, I can engineer me. I am me, and I am Okay. Virginia Satir

A quote read to me, for me in fact , by a 40yo friend who went on to live for a further 8 months: “When you come to one of the many moments in life when you must give an account of yourself, provide a ledger of what you have been and done and meant to the world, do not, I pray, discount that you filled a dying man’s days with sated joy, a joy unknown to me in all my prior years, a joy that does not hunger for more and more but rests, satisfied. In this time, right now, that is an enormous thing” She read from “When Breath Becomes Air” Written by Paul Kalanithi, published posthumously A quote I will cherish forever
