It's more popular than you think. I wasn't too sure about it at first until I had it done to me. It's been discussed in many a forum post on here, with the debates becoming quite heated. It's certainly a high risk activity in the context of swinging and a sure way to spread and or contract a STD if one of the people engaging in it is infected with something. Sexual infections / diseases are almost always spread via the mucosa and the lining of the anus/ rectum is a very thin and delicate mucous membrane. Safe sex and infection control should be a high priority in the swinging scene. It amazes us how many profiles on here , with regards the safe sex option are often "sometimes " "if required" and "never " and that often the female half of the couple will have " safe sex always" yet her male counterpart " never " . How does that work ? Given the fact that the anus opens to the rectum opens to the intestines etc etc it's not really possible to ensure that it's 100% clean, not even with a long bottle brush!!! Lol It's also a well documented fact that a female urinary tract infection is almost always caused by e-coli and so rimming her and then, with the same tongue and mouth , going down on her , could very well result in a UTI, depending of course on her physiology. But when people get all horny and worked up and in the swing of things, they forget about the boundaries in the heat of the moment. We went to a well known swingers party that's hosted in a Melbourne nightclub 4 times a year. 1300 people and sometimes more attend. I asked my Doc about this a long time ago, as I was into it and wanted to know the story. I also did quite a bit of research on the Net and found a number of sites that say the following: Hepatitis A could be contracted by the 'giver', if they were Immuno-Suppressed by HIV or other condition. Hep A is not a 'Chronic' disease like Hep C. It is cured by the body's immune system. There is also a vaccine (Gamma Globulin) that is effective before or soon after exposure. (Plumbers have this vaccine at the beginning of their careers, for obvious reasons). A number of 'Baby Boomers' are immune to Hep A, having had it during an epidemic in the mid 60's, which went through schools like a dose of salts. Once you've had it, you can't get it again, nor is the virus any longer present. For those who haven't had it, your Doc should recommend it when you get your Hep B vaccine. Other Bacterial infections can be passed to the 'giver', again if they are Immune System compromised. For example, E-Coli, Salmonella, Gonorrhea (of the mouth or throat) etc. These are cured by antibiotics. However, you will be sick for the prescribed period. HIV cannot be passed on by saliva nor is it found in the rectum or faeces. So, it is not a risk. (According to the U.S. Centre for Disease Control -CDC). It is BAD practice to go straight from 'rimming' to the genitals, as some of the more common bacterial infections could be passed on to again, someone who is immune-suppressed. Even though a ladies anus and genitals are in very close proximity, the risk, although slight, still exists, so a rinse with anti bacterial mouth wash (including the lips and chin) will guard against this). One doctor reports that after 10 years of specializing in treating STD's, he has come across 5 individuals who had contracted genital warts on their mouth, but all 5 were dealing with HIV and were obviously Immuno-Suppressed, as Genital warts don't normally affect the mouth. That's the information I've found and confirmed, so people are aware and can prepare... I think anyone who has any 'self-respect' or respect for their lover, will make sure that they are as clean as they can be, EVERYWHERE... Regardless of whether you expect there may be 'anal' activities or oral or not. It's just plain courtesy and as I said, respect. I mean, apart from that, who wants to be known as 'dirty' or 'unhygienic' or just unpleasant in any way, to someone? I always shower and make sure I'm clean everywhere... I think it's too dirty. I hate having it done to me and I will NEVER do it to someone. WAY too much bacteria down there, that causes gastro etc. You wouldn't want someone shaking your hand straight after taking a dump, without washing their hands first, so why is sticking your tongue in their anus any more hygienic? In the interim we have had 2 kids, changed countries and in late 2012 decided to lose weight and watch what we eat. The weight loss [27 kg & 23 kg respectively] has resulted in us becoming more adventurous, feeling more healthy and sexy and so 31 Dec 2012 was our first foray into the swinging scene, when we attended a well known swingers ball in Melbourne. We did not play with others, just one another. Since Feb 2013 and up to March 2014, there have been numerous UTI infections, in fact almost every month. The GPs [she saw several] had no clue as to why, after all these years, there would be such problems. They ran all the STI tests, suspecting [and insinuating] that the female half of this marriage was engaging in risky sexual practices with multiple partners.... hence running a whole series of STI tests, all of which came back negative as expected [ as we have not slept around - had only three 4somes during 2014 and obviously have always used condoms]. At first we suspected it may be the lube supplied at a swingers club we went to often. And so we took our own. Then we thought it may be the condoms supplied at the swingers club and or an allergy to latex, and so we took special ones made from another material. Still that did not solve the problem. We then went to a Gynae, who then referred us to a Urologist who suspected either bladder cancer or interstitial cystitus [due to the pain 24/7]. The gynae, also suspected endometriosis. And so exploratory was booked for a date in early March 2014. 4 days before the scheduled surgery, we went to another gynae, so as to get a 2nd opinion. He knew, after talking to us, exactly what the problem was, but to be 100% sure, he recommended that she still go through with the exploratory surgery later that week. The outcome was that due to the weight loss, her pelvic floor muscles were no longer carrying that extra weight, as a result of which they had become very strong and very tight [Gynaes internal confirmed that] . A stressful job, that had coincided with the weight loss, resulted in her carrying her stress in her pelvic floor muscles, squeezing them tight when she was stressed. The result of the tightness was a squeezing down on the bladder [causing the pain] which also prevented the bladder from completely emptying during / after urination, thus encouraging the growth of any bacteria [ like ecoli] that were introduced into the urinary tract during sex and primarily oral sex as the tongue pushed the bacteria up the urethra with its licking action. The gynae recommended pelvic floor physiotherapy which after just one session sorted out the 24/7 pain and has put an end to the recurring UTI s after sex. The gynae has however confirmed that oral sex [him going down on her] is certainly a major cause of a UTI, as not only does the tonue and mouth contain a lot of bacteria [including ecoli] but that if the tongue went for a little trip around the outside of the anus [ even if said anus was recently scrubbed clean] and then paid a visit to to the vagina, that the chances of a UTI resulting were very high. In her case, her immune system is 100% and not compromised in any way whatsoever. She has not, in 3 years, had a cold, the flu or any other illness at all. Nor have any of us every had any UTIs [besides her bladder infections] , herpes, genital warts, cold sores or anything like that ever. Some people, by way of their physical make up, the length of their urethra etc may just be more prone to a UTI than others, although in her case there has been nothing for 17 years and the problems only started following the weight loss and a stressful job and were thus physical as opposed to some form of immune suppression. The doctors were all wrong. ll they could really do was prescribe antibiotics, which in turn resulted in candida [ something which she had never before experienced]. For many of them its simply guess work. It took a highly specialised, UK trained Gynae to find the real cause. Tight pelvic floor muscles, which squeezed on the bladder, then allowed bacteria, introduced into the urinary tract during cunnilingus, to then take hold in the bladder. We have avoided cunnilingus and this has solved the problem 100%. During those lovemaking sessions [just us 2] that there has been cunnilingus, she has ended up with a UTI, 80% of the time if he has not been very careful about where his tongue goes and has, for example, not used a very strong anti-bacterial mouth wash. Incidentally he has had a saliva swab taken, and the bacteria / oral flora are 100% and within normal limits/counts. Anal ecoli are, 99% of the time, the cause of a UTI in woman - the anus and vagina are very close and the wall between them is very thin. The vagina is able to handle that, its when the vaginal bacteria [which may contain ecoli] are introduced into the female urinary tract [urethra and bladder] as a result of cunnilingus, that problems occur. Saliva, semen, vaginal and anal mucous [ in fact all mucous membranes] are a vector for transmission of many bacterial and viral infections should the giver and or receiver, be infectious. Putting on a condom, during sex with others, may very well take care of the semen/vagina contact, and is thus safe sex, although not 100%. Many people dont really give much thought to oral/cunnilingus/rimming and cross contamination from one vagina to the next, using fingers for example, that go from one vagina to the next without washing in between, as a result spreading vaginal mucous from one vagina to the next. Many men will also not put on a fresh condom when going from one vagina to the next in a group session. Again a risky business. At the end of the day each and every one of us has our own responsibility with regards infection control, just as we all have different opinions. That said people need to understand and respect any boundaries that one may set, with regards ones own health and well being. As the saying goes - no glove no love !!

From all I've read, any anal penetration is higher risk for STIs etc because of greater risk of tears and bleeding etc. So in theory rimming should be less risk, but as others have already mentioned, risks are still high.There is a lot of information about STIs and not too much about bacterial issues that can cause mouth, throat, stomach and bowel issues. I'm not convinced that no matter how much you clean, you are clean enough.I have had strep throat from regular oral sex. It lasted over a week, caused much pain (like swallowing broken glass) and required a course of antibiotics. I'm concerned that rimming may have the same outcome.As great as it feels, for a few minutes of pleasure.... I often wondered about how many women actually liked this. As I said weeks ago, "I live for it (giving)", and by the majority of responses from the ladies, I find that the majority DO, in fact, enjoy receiving it as much as I enjoy giving it...
