Sad Songs

June 22 2018

Because I often think in music I find songs have significant meaning for me in sad and happy times. Music has helped me through some of the most difficult times in my life. What you song/songs do you put on when you are feeling sad about a person or relationship, breakup, heartache or one that has special meaning for you, for whatever reason in that context? I have whole playlists of these songs but one that I come back to a lot is Innerbloom by Rufus (Recent name change to Rufus Du Sol) The lyrics and vocals are just so melancholic and I like the fact that it is 9 minutes long so I can really sink deep. Not that I'm walking around in a state of despair but I like to have them there when I need them. Also Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye/Kimbra. I could never imagine this could happen but then it did. That you can feel so strong, then feel nothing much at all, still kind of freaks me out and puzzles me how human emotions work? Anyways interested to hear your thoughts on any of the above and might get a few gems to add to the playlist.

A music lovers meet up for all of us bored single folks. Come to my house. I'll look after you. We can take turns picking the next song. The bottle is nearly gone. MFW hope your OK. Theres nothing like Saturday night alone to bring on those shitty feels. Put on something to distract you instead. Are you happy with your move? I need to meet some single people but I find it hard in my 40's. If I wasn't so mildly introverted I'd start a meet up music group. Why can't all my RHP people live in walking distance. I already discussed this last night with a friend that we need a commune.

I can imagine moving to quite a small place on your 40’s could present some obstacles and being sick also makes you feel vulnerable. I hope you feel better soon. Both physically and in spirit. I find these feelings tend to come in waves so hope they steady out for you. Sending you a virtual hug. I’m OK. When I get bored and miss adult company I get antsy and as you say also feelings of isolation. So I went and booked some concerts. Something to look forward too 😀 - Posted from rhpmobile

Big Bad John Speaking of concerts (and not that anyone mentioned it, long stories), I've only ever been to one, Status Quo back when the Concert Centre in Perth was new. Freaked me out a lot how emotional people get. Crying and screaming fit to block all the actual music. Apparently memories fade, and with Neil Diamond supposed to be heading to Perth this year, and playing minutes away from home. I got excited at the possibility except for the lack of actual funds! I did contact him through one of his profiles but never heard back, lol. Sadly, his tours were cancelled due to the sudden onset of Parkinson's. I was brought to tears after that, earlier this year when the surprise was dropped by hubby that one of our family was planning on taking me to a concert! But he felt the need to ask me which woman I preferred Shania or Celine. Then, because I'm not a big one for keeping secrets I was never meant to know, LOL! I spilled the beans to the surpriser, who revealed Celine was too Booked out and the cheapest Shania tickets were gone (thanks scalpers, you suck), so yeah, not going to happen. Time is coming up to Mother's Day and one of the family (who had cash flow more then usual) reveals the surpriser is paying them back for something. Seriously, the worst kept secret ever... Bless, not sad but still makes me teary, 2 tickets had to covered of course so I could have company. I have her "Up!" concert on DVD... Huge Love

and their song Down Under, a classic. The Kookaburra Song, loved it long time, lol. It wasn't until the writer of The Kookaburra Song died that the receiver of the estate brought the claim against them for the supposed use of the riff in their song. The copyright claim centred around the flute riff played by Men at Work’s Greg Ham..Ham, who did not write Down Under, was devastated by the high profile court case and his role in proceedings..The musician had reportedly fallen back into alcohol abuse and was quoted as saying: “I’m terribly disappointed that’s the way I’m going to be remembered — for copying something. It cast a shadow over the band and 2 historic songs that is so sad. Peachy

As a songwriter of late, the potential to be liable for even an unconscious, accidental copyright infringement, is something that strikes fear into anyone trying to create original works. Back on topic, I wasn't sure whether The Pretenders - I'll Stand By You - is a sad song or a strong song for the other thread. It did nearly made me cry in a supermarket once. But I'd certainly dedicate it to those needing support, if I could be that support. - Posted from rhpmobile

When I listen to Grandpa's song - Vika and Linda Bull. The queen and the soldier - Kate Rusby or Suzanne Vega.... take your pick Deathrow conversation - Colin Hay And a favourite that I relate to as will all the bipolar children out there, so it hits me hard. Lithium - Evanescence

There must be some thing wrong, this use to be a adult contact site, some how we have been tricked into paying to be members, when it must actually be a new version of some soft cock music groups meeting site.

way to make a topic popular, I was enjoying it in it's original format though... Think I'll look up a song or few to add to the topic later. 🍑

"Where did all the cocks and pussies go?" I believe this is in the off topic forum section, isn't it? Don't browse the off topic section if you don't want to read stuff that's off topic; likely about stuff that an entirely different organ of the human body is interested in. You can always petition RHP to create an "AustPhil's Interests Only" forum sub section. - Posted from rhpmobile

But I'm totally going to drag out my rainbow trolling, never seen one like it... And check out some songs by the Trolls I just saw on the net, though I'm not sure if that's sad or silly... 🍑

I love lemons and always felt they were never given enough credit. Peter, Paul & Mary - Lemon Tree Very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet, but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat! 🍑

There a lot of good sad emotional songs mentions on this thread. Leonard Cohen "Tower of Song" comes to mind and my favourite "Love yourself" by Justin Biever however I just sing the original version as it was intended " You can go and fuck yourself"

"Love Yourself" More cursing? I prefer original versions... "Forget You" by Cee Lo"Fuck It (I Don't Want You Back" - Eamon And while this song by Lillie Allen - "Not Fair" can go on a couple of threads, lol, this one seemed the most entertaining for the sad fact that it played so many times on the radio on the same night we had a meet n greet. Due irony was given with no Big O for me but that was not for the lack of trying. It's another part of why we self serve alone at home these days, I am so much more comfortable and at peace to be able to relax. Peachy

"Autumn Leaves" & "Thunderchild", the heart of the album (which is not based on any movie but stands alone in it's intense story). Peachy

Peachy...do you mean Forever Autumn? I love that song, too. The singer on it was the guy from The Moody Blues...the one who sang Nights in White Satin.

This song always makes me cry. Gets me all nostalgic and romantic, its so soppy and lovely. My kids just roll their eyes now and tell me to change the station when it comes on. Foxy also like Dean Lewis and his new song. Lose My Mind is my favorite song of his. It's also made me cry. I realise I now have become a crier. Up until I had kids I never cried. Even when my Dad passed not many tears. Now it seems almost anything has the capacity to bring a tear to my eye, songs, movies, photos, words in books, RHP posts, dating sites LOL.

Sad news. Iconic Australian blues singer and arguably Australia’s best harmonica player has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Understandably he won’t be performing again. Wishing Chris and his family/friends all the good I can muster for these hard times. If you are unfamiliar with him, check him out on you-tube. You will surely love again , which I posted earlier in this thread, living in a hard hard land are great examples of his work. He was also in crown of thorns and harem scarem. - Posted from rhpmobile

Sad news TCM. 😔☹ Adding my thoughts and positive vibes to yours. I've seen Chris Wilson live a few times...just love his blues work. Saw Chris & Geoff Achison cutting loose together at a Wang blues & jazz festival a few years back...far out! 😍 Two of Australia's best musicians having the time of their lives. What a privilege to watch!

Indeed a great musician. Have seen him quite a few times to and have been fortunate enough to chat to him after a few gigs. Such a humble bloke. Have seen him paired up with Geoff Achison to and they rocked. Geoff is playing locally for me next month so I’ll be going to see him. Off to see Jimi Hocking in a couple of days. I wouldn’t mind betting they will both perform tribute songs for Chris.
