I don't have any, I have no desire to get any however I don't mind them on other people. Depends what it is really. I am not usually a fan of full sleeves but my brother in law has a good sleeve. My sister has a full back job which I hate! Two of my son's have them and I am not really a fan of any they have had done.

I love all my tattoos, they are beautiful........All mine are very personal, I call it my story, I have just chosen to wear my story on my body..... I was relatively a cleanskin until 12 months ago, with only one on my shoulder. I now have 2 half sleeve, all my inside forearm and one on the outer forearm of my left arm, one on my lower right side of my back, one in the middle of my back, little ones on my wrists, feet, behind my ear, inside my ear, insides of a couple of fingers and one on my chest. I think that's about it, I haven't had one for about 6 months, so it's probably time to get a couple more lol...... I get some strange looks from a variety of different people, who rather judge the book by its cover, before actually reading the story. But I knew that when I made the decision to do it, because there not for everyone and that's ok......đź’‹

We don't have any and have nothing against them actually think some look good but being involved heavily in the transport industry I come across a lot of guys who are covered in them around there neck and hands . Now they often complain that when they are trying to do business they are judged as soon as they walk in the door . Our son want to get a few and I just encourage him to get them where they can be covered if he wants like if he wears a t shirt ect - Posted from rhpmobile

Keep it simple, I too have a shoulder piece. Mine is of a sexy looking angel with my children's names written under her wings. She is meant to represent the fearless woman in me that will do anything to protect her kids (though my angel is sexy as hell) but also represents the sexy woman that I'm trying to be ;) The other is what I refer to 'my tree of life'. located on my rib cage (hurts like hell) is a cherry blossom tree. The roots have my birthdate in it, the top of the trunk before it branches out to two huge branches has my wedding date in it (carved into the trunk). Each big branch represents one of my two children. In the bouquet of cherry blossoms on each branch, is their respective birthdates. My son drew that for me! They are incredible special to me, and at parties that we frequent, I've had people spend a lot of time talking about them. I've had many people ask about my artwork and go they do go and see my tattooist and she is brilliant :)Mary xx

Personally we don't like them and see them as graffiti littering and defacing the human form. One small tatt can look good, however so many people start adding more and more, almost like an addiction, and that's when things start to get messy. - Posted from rhpmobile

and personally not a fan of tats. I see it somewhat similarly as Jason_Leslie - why would you want to deface your own body ? I can't see it as artwork either, although others clearly do. We will all see this in different perspectives, so I don't "judge" people who may have them, but they are just not for me. Tall

Addictive, interesting choice of words Tattoos are very much a personal choice , with usually a story connected to them and can be a great conversation starter I have (starting from the bottom) One of my left foot (like Qefenta) it is a mantra written in Sanskrit. I put it on my foot to remind me that I am on a journey everyday and not to judge any until I have walked in their shoes (this one sooo hurt when I had it done) My parents died when I was very young so I have a tattoo on the inside of my left fore arm ( in myth the arm/artery that is connected to the heart) , as a memorial to them and so I can see it every day and carry them with me always I have one on my lower back. It is a constellation that reminds me to stay grounded but always shoot for the stars - its small and pretty I have a tiny one on the back of my neck near my hair line but you can only see that when I wear my hair up - again it is in Sanskrit, to remind me to centre myself and that this is the centre of learning My most impressive and largest tattoo, is the one on my torso (right hand side) it is quite large and quite the talking point It is of a birdcage with a cat on top of the cage, letting the birds that were captive in the cage, swallows who are flying to freedom Its very symbolic to me and is a reminder of how I was captive but now free , there's actually of lot more of the story to that tat, but that is for me. :) I don't feel the need to have any more I have absolutely no regrets in having them done, and when people have said "You'll be sorry when your older" I think why ?, they are part of me, why would I regret when I'm older. They are my story, my life, my personal memorials and reminders, why would I regret that ?? My advice to anyone contemplating...think long and hard about putting a lovers image or name on your skin. Lovers have a habit of moving on. Don't get one for the hell of it, be committed, and be very clear on what you want and more than that what the tat means to you. Take your time researching and looking around for a great tattooist. Ask questions...lots..and personally I wouldn't have one done overseas as the hygienic standards can be questionable And just be aware that some employers aren't crazy about them and truth is you need a job to pay for your tats so be discreet regarding your tats and your employment. I'm fortunate, I'm self employed so not a issue for me, plus if required I can cover mine, but I would prefer not to unless its my choice. Embrace and enjoy

Embrace and enjoy Great advice here, especially about taking your time. The worse thing you can do is the drunk or impulsive tatt which you regret after. I took a number of years to get my tatts, and everyone was planned carefully as they are about my life and all have very specific meanings. I also made sure that a shirt covers them as with work and in other situations discretion can be appropriate. Though on the beach well you do see them all even the ones very low on my front... I definitely do not have an addiction to getting them, they hurt like crazy, and not fond of pain. But in saying that I have two pieces to go as I have had it all planned out from the beginning and I hate leaving things not completed, but the new pieces require a good artist and still looking for one I have total confidence in. So some of my tatts include dragons, a woman in a hogtie, floggers and a few other things....never had a regret about any of them.

I did a whole exhibition around me with tats. photographed over a hundred guys, and that is what bought me to rHP in the first place. However I also interviewed a hell of a lot that regretted those tats, and the biggest growth industry now is tat removal. it is often, it seemed like a good idea at the time. With the exceptions of Tribal tats. New Zealand guys have history of family on their body and it shits me to see others hijack that as they have no idea what they are putting on their body but it just looks good. girls that do all their decolletage soon regret it when it comes to that wedding dress or when they are a bit more grown up and the pink panther playing a saxophone on their tummy is not so cute. one of my daughters is an actress and played Anne of Cleves once and she was lucky no tats is often part of the deal if you want to work. Body make up adds to the cost of productions. Even on white boats( those private luxury yachts) if you want to go on them , most do not want tats, unless you can hide them under clothes, many people do not realise this. Any fashion statement soon dates. But its just personal choice in the end each to their own. I like them from an artistic point of view and I love them on men, its a turn on for me.

I have a few of a decent size in plain and thick black. Some of the stencils were created by myself, some are downscaled copies of portions of my late fathers artwork and some is not original. It's just art on skin.Personally, I don't subscribe to the view of tattoos on my body as a Time Capsule or Log Book of memorablemoments or something similar. For the same reasons that a woman..or man..dyes their hair, changes their eyebrows, enlarges/decreases their breasts, gets a nose/ear job, sculpts their physique, etc…I got tattoos. Bored of my self image, I tried something new. I can't grow my hair long anymore.. ; )Besides, it fits well with my modest artistic skills, allowing me to have some creative input. It's a fascinating process, both messy and painful, depending on the part of the body..and I love the permanence of it. Too many things in life are claimed to be forever these days but often aren't. Like marriage. **disclaimer: I've never been married or even close to it** ; ) I also love the rich history and cultural diversity behind tattoos…and the necessity to endure the required pain..as if it's a toll to be payed. But cash is not accepted payment for that part. When I notice someone's tattoos on the street I tend to see them from an artistic point of view these days:colour, form, definition..is there symmetry or asymmetry, etc.I think it's great that I view them like this..perhaps when as a child I associated them as a badge of the"unpleasant" persons in society..but those days are long gone. They're an amazing form of art that one doesn't just stick on or wash out when it takes their fancy. And like all silly mistakes that people make, the bad ones have to be lived with.

My first one is a unicorn on my lower back, it was the early eighties, so higher than a tramp stamp and not my own artwork, but a copy of Jody Bergsma's. My second is a pair of fairy wings on my shoulder blades and fits within most straps, it's my design and done when my mum was dying and was finished just a week before. She always said we have the ability to fly if we just believe. My third is a sleeve from elbow to on top of my left collarbone, once again my own design and a dedication to my mum and my three daughters. Three frogs (mum loved them) on three lily's (mums maiden name and our wedding flowers) and some scroll work. Next is a fairy giving me a kiss behind my right ear, corsetry style lacing on the back of my calves and a phoenix on my midriff. All will be my own designs and funded by selling my paintings. My body is a canvas, I don't really care what others think. When I have grandchildren, I'll get some done just with outlines, so I can be their very own colouring book!

No need to get personal or sarcastic. Obviously one cannot catch a STI from a tattoo, however we have seen many reports about tainted and toxic tattoo ink, so best to go to a reputable tattoo parlour. - Posted from rhpmobile

You can catch STIs such as hepatitis and aids if the needles aren't properly sterilised etc. That's why you should choose your artist carefully. Plus, it's worth a check up 6 months afterwards as a just in case.

I love your post. It touched me specially abou yiur parents. And the one on your left foot. About compassion and empathy. Such wonderful gestures. If I was nkt averse to needles I would have been inspired ti get one myself.your tattoos sound amazing. I like hearing the stories behind tattoos. My trainers have tattoos on their arms and legs. Beautiful art and we went thru them during a break and some were dedicated to people they have lost. Beautiful stuff. I love tattoos but not on me unfortunately. Has anyone seen the Tfal spaceage frying pan ad? That might be me one day with the tattoo. - Posted from rhpmobile

Mr Poly has traditional island tattoos while Mrs Poly is cleanskin and nor does she ever ever want them (traditional or otherwise) LOL.... Mr Polys cultural tattoos were completed in both traditional and non traditional methods however the cultural theme (identifying his and Mrs Polys ethnic background, both of the family roots and personal storyline) exists in his artwork. Mr Polys tattoos are also hidden from general view (unless he wears a singlet LOL) where he had intentionally kept the tattoos above the elbow. This was so his tattoos were personal for himself, Mrs Poly and our respective families. Mr Poly represents and is immensely proud of both his and Mrs Polys culture and while the tattoos are just a visual display of who we are and where we are from........it is whats inside the heart that is more important....so each to their own :)

all for sharing your stories and opinions. Some good advice in here too about placement and visiting reputable artists, although a point worth mentioning, tattoo needles aren't sterilised anymore in Australia. By law the artist must use brand new needles on each person.

People with Tatts. Do your research. Personally, I know that I change and so having a blue ink drawing permanently on my bod would be like loving the same music for the rest of my life. Always Changing so would not work for me. Love the human form and flesh as it is anyway. Mmmmm just beautiful. Why mess with it. - Posted from rhpmobile

I'm getting one of my son at age 5, by then he had his own little personality and looked such a handsome little dude, that was an era I will never forget. My dog, my son choose him out of a litter of 6 that were breed by my parents, for us to have one for helping out renovating of my Aunty's house, he broke all the common traits of his breed, swam in creeks, had road sense, never left our camping area accept with us or on a lead. He was special, he and my boy showed me what love truly is. When my son was 3wks old, I took a B&W shot with a tripod of him asleep hanging onto my little finger, I then caligrafied "Soilders in Arms" on it, after the Dire Straits song "Brothers in Arms", had it blown up, cropped it by hand framed it and loved it. My son now has it too display at his 21st, unfortunately I can't attend, but will never forget that shot. Last but not least, Ned Kelly, with words "So it's Come Ta Dis", I believe they were the words he used at the "Last Stand" at Glenrowan, his brother and best mate were dead, he faced the Troops in his armour and stood by his beliefs. Some tout him as a "Murderer" because of Stringy Bark Creek, I was told that he was just avenging the "rape" of his Mother and Sister by Troopers. Not sure. Cheers P.L.

..... it was my 36th birthday when i decided to get my first, i ALWAYS wanted tattoos, but my family wasn't too keen about them. I had a huge transformation with my weight and decided to do what i always wanted and get my butterfly signifying my change,,,,, then discovering how addictive they are I then got a wrist /cuff for the three loves in my life . Don't regret them at all, now i dont worry what others think, and actually get more compliments and of course the "did that Hurt" comment , then any negative remarks.I think everyone gets too sensitive about these things... if someone isn't to your liking ,move on !!!But sometimes you miss the most interesting people when you judge too quickly.... just saying

I've got a few, I'm especially proud of my memorial tattoos mostly taken from actual photos of absent friends on their bikes. For the last one the original tattooist was not available so I had to find one capable of matching the work, it was worth the effort. I'd have more but budget priorities rule that out for a while.

The one on my ear, no pain at all, I do have a very high pain threshold though.... They are very addictive, the pain is also.....Most people with tattoos realize they're not for everyone, people have their own reasons for the choices they make. I didn't do it for anyone but myself, they all are very special and mean a lot to me, they have helped me let go of somethings that were still weighing on my mind. I don't particularly care what anyone thinks of them, they can have their opinions, because we all have the right to have opinions. But at the end of the day, it's my body, to do with as I please, it's my story to tell however I choose to tell it..... Like I said, I get looks, quite a few looks, my mother is one of them lol, but if those people can't look beyond my tattoos and see me for me, then I don't think I need them in my life anyway.....đź’‹

* Infinity symbol with the word (Love embossed). I have a pic in gallery.. It's my favorite. * inner right wrist (Tree of life) * Lower back tribal which I forget it's there. Each one of my tattoos has a very special meaning to me - they are part of me. It took me ages to decide where on my body and what I wanted. I work in a very professional environment and took that into consideration as well. Foxy

Love the stories behind the tattoos. I have many and they all have deep meanings and symbolism. I feel like it is facets of myself expressed through my own personal pieces of art that I get to carry around and display (who doesn't want to show off their amazing art...whether it be on canvas or skin?) What am i gonna do when I'm old? Hang out with all the other cool oldies comparing our ink, sharing our stories and riding motorbikes!! Haha - Posted from rhpmobile

You cannot catch aids from getting Tattoos. You though get HIV from them. Common mistake - AIDS is the last step before death. HIV is the disease that potentially can lead to AIDS without proper treatment. Like anything in life you have to do the research and make sure you are going to a reputable and safe artist. I don't have any myself but LOVE them on other people (provided they done tastefully)

mine tell my story, they are personal and each represents a spiritually defining moment in my lifea friend asked me recently why I liked so many, I said they are like my battle scars, I'm proud of them because they all represent a fight I survived and grew throughThey are definitely individualistic, I neither care if someone has them or not, but have found most judgements come from older clean skins...not that I care ;)Great subject

More and more younger women are getting body ink and some are just so beautiful. Even better with a story behind them. I was in the US not long ago and met a lady, on the BART train station, with full on tattoos on her body and I couldn't get my eyes off them. She must have lots of people stare at her some disagreable and some in awe. Hers were just amazing. I went up to her and complimented her on them and we got chatting. I heard her stories and each one of the tattoo meant a milestone in her love and life. She invited me to dinner with her family and was surprised when her family was very upper middleclass and conservative and live in a very nice suburb in San Francisco. You can really judge people until you have met and spoken to them. She was a well of kindness and wisdom, definitely wise beyond her years. We are still in touch as friends.

I don't dislike tattoos, but for me personally, I couldn't imagine that would suit me, so I've never considered getting any. I have very pale skin, I reckon it suits tanned people more. And although people all say 'my tattoos are for me', I think there is a general idea that tattoos attract tattoos, and I do know many guys have gotten tattoos to adhere more to the 'bad boy' look, and attract the hordes of women that like dangerous looking dudes.

Only have a couple but they are personal. Have on on torso of the southern cross and the words "ride on to the stars".Took for ever to get it as dad passed in 2000 and while sick told us that he would watch over us from the stars and he picked the bottom pointer in the Southern Cross. Of course when i was ready to get it the whole cronulla riots sparked up and the S'cross became a sign of a minority of aussies. so waited a bit and then got it a few years ago.Got another on my forearm which is a Celtic Triskelion means always moving forward - never backwards after some hard times and i see it always and is a great reminder. Mrs Pj has our wedding flowers on her lower back with the kids initals, and one on each wrist with wording meaning a lot to her. She getting another on the torso under her right boob where there is a birth mark to get it covered. You can see the torso ones in our profiles. Great stories behind most tats and love a well defined tattoo. some of the artwork is mind blowing. PJ

But can never commit to what exactly to get. I love the watercolour style and those done by Peter Aurish. If I was to get one I would get a small one like that. To me that is true body art. As long as they are done well... I like them. But have to admit to be a bit conservative and dislike them on hands, fingers and too high on the neck. That's just me. Each to their own. As long as you love it and it means something special to you.

Adore tattoos on females...the more artistic and higher quality the better in my opinion. Last GF had quite a few in various places (she was a self confessed tattoo nerd). Loved inspecting them closely with hands and kisses going from one to another. I don't have any myself, have thought about from time to time...also had a very vivid dream about getting the tops of my feet done once. Went on a surfing holliday to Samoa and got to witness a traditional Samoan tapping style tattoo being done on my mates partner which was a really cool experience.

I have tattoo's, a number actually.......they all have a meaning to me (something I learnt a long ago). My tattoos range in age from a couple of years ago to 30 years ago. and all but 1 small one was professionally done.Yes over the years I have had situations where I have regretted them, some anyway. My regret has not always been my own, but one of social stigma

My name in Hebrew on my back, the Capricorn symbol on my right calf, a tribute to my late best friend on my left, actually heading overseas to get my left arm sleeved with an evil theme, to even everything out, might even get started on my chest piece if I dont wuss out ;) Love the way a good tattoo can enhance a part of ones body, a self esteem boost also, but mainly for me, it's a permanent reminder of what and who is important to me, and kind of symbolizes me as a whole - Posted from rhpmobile

I think they're horrible. I have some friends that love them and get addicted to having them done but maybe it's an age thing; they remind me of my Dad and he always regretted having his done. I really find them unattractive on both sexes and they put me off so much they've often been a deal breaker. No thanks.

We love tattoos to be honest we are definitely more attracted by a woman who has some tattoos . The only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people, is that tattooed people don't care if you don't have a tattoo! !!! - Posted from rhpmobile

Currently I have 3 1; My 1/2 back piece is my 'family tree' a triangular grouping of butterflies and scrollwork /stars of each of my family. In the centre is a heart line and heart, signifying the day my heart stopped and survived. 2; a cupcake on my right foot. A childhood name from my dad, also a symbol of my home business I built after separation and divorce. 3; the word believe on my left foot. This is topped with angel wings, halo and 5 stars. This is to signify my angel babies. All can be covered or exposed as needed. It took 1 year to design my tattoos, and a further 6 months to find an artist and tattoo studio I was happy with. - Posted from rhpmobile

The only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people, is that tattooed people don't care if you don't have a tattoo I don't have tattoos and I don't give a fuck who does despite reading that garbage every time there is a tattoo thread. I don't have them because there is nothing I would want permanently inscribed on my body to date, I find it illogical to sit through hours of optional pain and I am too anal if someone fucked up what they did, I would hate it and that sort of defeats the purpose of getting one. I do find that some people are getting them simply to be different just like like everybody else. I was already born different to everyone else.

Quoting 'Keepitsimple72' Hence your username huh? This isn't going to turn into that old "welcome to Jamaica" joke is it? ;-) So don't tease me, what's the story? I dont know that Jamaica joke but I did have an ebay ID once that was Jamaica_horny :D The story is that the tattoo hurt like fucking hell, I did it myself and it made my eyes water. The tattoo is a dragon (and not on the ground) :p When it rears its ugly head it is a sight to behold (and suck n fuck) and worth all the pain involved :DA girl once said to me after I came that she'd never had dragon snot all over her face ever before. I had to laugh.I was going to tattoo a ruler on it but could not maintain an erection for any longer than a quarter of an inch :S

I have read some amazing and interesting replies and personal ideas from the people above regarding Tattoos. They really are a personal choice and no one bar the owner/wearer decides what is best for them. I have 3 tattoos and each one of them has its own meaning for me. I like the way they accentuate my personality (in my opinion) and give a (albeit brief synopsis) of my personality to the outside world. I have seen some very ordinary tattoos that project irrationality, but then again that's only (my opinion lol).

A nice male body with great tatts is very sexy to me. I love talking to people about their tattoos and why they got them done. I have one, a seahorse, that I got 11 years ago, but I actually wish I hadn't. I'm going to get it covered up. I should have put more time and effort into planning exactly what I wanted. I quite like it but don't love it.

I have a Japanese sleeve with an Australian theme, so instead of a dragon, it's a croc and instead of Japanese flowers, they're Australian flora. Plus others, including a mirror image of the quote "built to endure what this world throws at me" across my chest so I can read it every morning.

Neither of us would say no to meeting new friends because of their choice in tats, but I do think they're a lot more interesting if there's a story behind them rather than random pics. We each have small wrist inks - K had hers done a couple of years ago and it symbolises her love for her dad who died just before our first child was born. It's all about the continuity of life, even with death as a part of it. Mine was a very recent addition, al about my love for my gorgeous wife and daughters and how we fit together. I also had it done simply because my friends and and co-workers wouldn't expect it of me. You can't see it under my work clothes and it represents the fun I can have without them knowing...!

It appears so many people get tats on the spur of the moment, "In Bali must get a tat" type of decision. They are for life. Yes I have a tat, my family crest, a code to live by. My hair dresser is a young 30 ish Kiwi who had many tats when in her 20's. She is going through the painful experience of having them removed. A long, painful and costly process. OK the new inks are more removal friendly but still a big deal.My advise, think long term before making a decision in haste.
