Quoting 'PurePeony' Quoting 'I_touch_myself2' Intoxicated - with life, enraptured, joyous, blissful, aroused, enchanted, delighted............. High on life Didcha just have a session with your Master? No he's gone quiet, I haven't heard from him, although some of that is to do with me and lack of free time. I've cancelled a few times and have had hardly any free time, so I guess eventually, they get their kicks elsewhere, fair enough. I can't change my situation so starting to kind of sit back and make considered decisions about who I choose to spend time with. Quoting 'usrightnow' Insignificant, just one of billions, that's all.Mr. urn. . Whilst certainly true in some regards, I'm sure you're aware you are far from insignificant to the people in your circle; your kids and Mrs. urn first and foremost, but here in the RHP forum too. Your contributions are deeply valued and appreciated by many. Try not to be too hard on yourself. Most all of us recognise that is so very easy to say, yet so difficult to master. I understand you've been dealt a pretty tough hand, but your posts here clearly indicate your love for your family, and that you have a level-headed demeanor. You've been quite resilient thus far. Don't Quit.

"...one of billions..." In some ways, we all are "just another dirty arsehole pointing at the ground" as someone once put it to me. It's a pretty rough and ready way of putting some things in perspective, but ought not be taken too literally, or applied to all aspects of life.

"The condition in which while knowing what would be the best thing to do, one does something else. The phenomenon intrigued *Plato and *Aristotle, because if we accept the Socratic equation between knowing a thing to be good and desiring it, then it becomes difficult to see how akrasia is possible. Yet the phenomenon evidently exists. Less optimistic philosophies find it equally hard to see how strength of will is possible. Akrasia is commonly translated as weakness of will, although that properly includes irresolution or infirmity of purpose, which is rather different." c/- Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy (Third Edition).

"Term introduced by *Grice for the implications of an utterance that go beyond what is strictly implied by the contents of the utterance. Thus, if I am asked what I think of my colleague and I reply, 'They tell me his spelling is good', then although nothing about his philosophical abilities follows from what I actually say, nevertheless my saying it implies that I hold a low opinion of those abilities. A conversation may largely hinge on implicatures, as when one damns with faint praise. Views about the meanings of terms will often depend on classifying the implications of sayings involving the terms as implicatures or as genuine logical implications of what is said. Implicatures may be divided into two kinds: conversational implicatures of the kind illustrated, and the more subtle category of conversational implicatures. Here a term may have the same content as another, but its use may as a matter of convention carry an implicature. Thus one view of the relation between 'he is poor and honest' and 'he is poor but honest' is that they have the same content (are true in just the same conditions), but that as a matter of the meaning of the term 'but' the second has implicatures (that the combination is surprising or significant) that the first lacks." c/- Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy (Third Edition).

"The view that the fundamental unit of significance is neither an individual word, nor a single sentence, but a whole theory or set of thoughts. The idea is that you could not, for example, just believe one thing about an object, for to understand the very idea of an object involves having memories, expectations, views about its powers and dispositions, and so on, eventually involving other things and a whole world view." c/- Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy (Third Edition) I'm finding this book (recently purchased) was a fantastic investment.

"A word that does not apply to itself. Thus 'long' is not a long word; 'antediluvian' is not an antediluvian word. See GRELLING'S PARADOX." "Grelling's paradox Some words refer to themselves: the word 'short' is short, and the word 'common' is common. Other words do not: the word 'long' is not long, and the word 'banana' is not a banana. Call these latter words 'heterological'. Then the question arises: is the word 'heterological' itself heterological? It is if it is not, and is not if it is. This is one of the family of *semantic paradoxes." c/- Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy (Third Edition) "If you set out to fail, and succeed, which have you done?" George Carlin
