Quoting 'lilyorchid' Quoting 'Qefenta1' Ontology how you can turn what I posted as a negative. I know you enjoy playing devils advocate and feel superior to other posters as none of us understand you..yadda yadda..well I am Mother Superior Q ...ps no more correspondence will be entered into. Yep. So he wants to think so..... so trying so hard to get a rise out of people.... I just skip his posts nowadays as it is more a rambling rather than communicating and connecting with people... History is littered with the damage wrought by "groupthink" and by the propensity of people to leap aboard passing "bandwagons" (as well as by lack of fully developed thought). I have long stated my intention to challenge such thinking. This would be clearly known and understood had you properly read and understood the many posts I have made to the forum over several months. (Though I suppose you may be thrown by some of the more esoteric creative writing and wordplay I've toyed with). I can bring you up to speed with this brief synopsis. In sometimes challenging peoples' thinking, it should be properly recognised I do not typically and simply seek to get a rise out of people. Certainly, I did make an exception with some posts today, but again this would be clearly understood had you properly read my earlier posts. I had actually described a capacity to do so, and I did forecast a possibility. This was to illustrate and reinforce a point previously made. It should also be clearly understood from my earlier posts, whether or not you read and respond to my contributions is your own free choice. I do enjoy and welcome discussion and debate on intellectually stimulating material, but I do not compel anyone to do so. Sometimes I do address posts to specific individuals, but it is an open forum. I also enjoy goofing off sometimes and making an ass of myself for a bit of fun. You might catch some self-deprecating humour in some of my writing. Much like in the Pub analogy I drew upon recently (where I likened each thread to a room in the venue, and everyone in that particular room are discussing aspects of the thread topic), you might consider my posts like you would a snippet of conversation overheard as you walk from one part of the room to another. You might choose to join the conversation taking place at one "table", or you might choose to pass by and join a different "table" discussing another aspect of the thread topic. In any event, you ought not feel compelled to participate in every conversation at every "table", or to call for censorship of conversations at other "tables" within the "venue". I have previously expressed my surprise how people participating in a website espousing "open minds", and documented instances otherwise mocking of "vanilla" concepts sometimes takes on it's own appearance of, or desire for conformity. If I am truly a minority figure in this realm, would I therefore qualify for special dispensation from the Political Correctness Police / Thought Police? FYI, you also likely did not notice early in my time on this site, I did admit that since childhood I have displayed ASD/Aspy traits. That ought not be any problem for anyone participating in this forum.

I built a timber garden screen today, stained and varnished it and installed it against the colorbond fence, behind my small patch of soil in my courtyard. I'm stoked with how it looks, but its primary purpose is as a heat shield for the plants I put into the soil today too. All native plants, I hope I've given them a good start. There's something very satisfying in encouraging plants to grow...

Which is amazing considering he just came out of hospital this week from pneumonia and his feeding issues went even more down hill as a result. We've been pumped to high priority through the hospital feeding clinic. But today he ate, toast, bacon, banana, apple and a bread roll. Not a balance of the five food groups but so much better than the last week and I'm so Proud!

Woke up at the stroke of 9:00 this morning after 12 hours of fantastic sleep, had 4/5ths of a fifth of good scotch still left, felt great and ready to take on the world...or a small part thereof that I actually can influence. That... would be me! Knowledge is power.

I just came across this quote, and it pleased me, so thought I'd share it here. ;-) Princess Diana is a year or so older than me, she has always been something of a role model to me since she became a non-fairy tale Princess.. Anyway, the quote I came across... "Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." - Princess Diana Peachy

Quoting 'PeachyPearL' I just came across this quote, and it pleased me, so thought I'd share it here. ;-) Princess Diana is a year or so older than me, she has always been something of a role model to me since she became a non-fairy tale Princess.. Anyway, the quote I came across... "Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." - Princess Diana Peachy I was raised in an environment which harboured such sentiment, and I do/have done many favours for people. Frequently this goes entirely unnoticed, or unnoticed fountillong after the fact. That is just fine by me. Actually, I would not even mention it except you raised the subject. Sometimes this may be an act, a task, a gift, a gesture of goodwill, or it may be as simple as making a suggestion and/or opening someone's eyes to an alternative perspective or solution to a problem. (Sometimes the true value of that other perspective is not readily understood or accepted. I know and have witnessed first hand how much damage can be done when a person falls victim to flawed thinking - so recently as VERY recently!). To draw a poker analogy: I'll see you, and I'll raise you. ; ) One factor you might like to consider is the idea that the performance of a good deed will give the benefactor of said good deed a feeling of gratification which is its own form of reward. (Thus, an unrewarded good deed is actually a misnomer!)

No, just no. If I say no to coriander, I don't mean I want several sprigs of it. :-P Also... If I'm in a high priced restaurant, I expect the staff to have the nous to advise me that the next course I have ordered also features coriander after I've commented to them about the first course. The better memory from the restaurant mentioned in the second part of my post... is perving upon the server preparing the crepes a la flambe while the customers at the table he serving were oblivious. Happy to have had the experience and to have provided the experience of the voyeur to the server in question. ;-) Peachy

I can't argue against the point that a good deed is it's own reward, lol. I've read articles that explore the phenomenon and as a teenager and remember discussing with a counselor how I felt as a consequence of performing deeds. I've looked up an article that explores The Science of Good Deeds (by Jeanie Lerche Davis) today which starts with the heading. "The 'helper's high' could help you live a longer, healthier life. It finishes with... "All the great spiritual traditions and the field of positive psychology are emphatic on this point -- that the best way to get rid of bitterness, anger, rage, jealousy is to do unto others in a positive way," Post tells WebMD. "It's as though you somehow have to cast out negative emotions that are clearly associated with stress -- cast them out with the help of positive emotions." Pleased to have looked into this further today, Peachy :-)

It might seem strange I put this here under pleased but for all the mixed emotions I have, the strength of some I was not expecting, circumstances were memorable and considerate with the vet coming to the car rather than our baby having to experience clinical surroundings. Our family allowed us exit from tne street and we didn't even realise at the time. Lay Down Sally was the tune that accompanied us most of the way home. Thank you world.

Much thanks to the ladies for your care and commiserations. It was an experience we shared as a family here keeping each other company and sharing memories last night. We'll miss her for a while yet but I couldn't be more pleased with this experience compared to when I had to let my cat go. The woman who insisted on chatting with us while we sat in the vet waiting room. How it took 3 efforts to finally get the needle in him. Having to race home and then to hospital because our grandson was deathly ill. I never felt I got the chance to say goodbye to him with respect. Grandson got better with no lasting effects but I'd missed the chance to see out my beloved cat's last days because of being at the hospital every day. :'-)
